Red Cliff Submits Brief to Bayfield County Regarding Proposed Water Bottling Project
|
|
The Red Cliff Band has submitted a brief to the Bayfield County Board of Adjustment with comments regarding Kristle KLR's appeal of the denied conditional use permit.
The Bayfield County Board of Adjustment will host a public hearing and meeting on Thursday August 26, 2021 at 9:00 AM in the County Board Room of the Bayfield County Courthouse in Washburn. The public is invited to attend the hearing to provide comments. Written comments will also be accepted and should be sent by August 25 via email to zoning@bayfieldcounty.wi.gov.
On April 15, 2021 the Bayfield County Planning and Zoning Committee denied Kristle KLR's application for a conditional use permit. Kristle KLR appealed the decision, leading to the upcoming August 26 public hearing and meeting where the Board of Adjustment will address the appeal.
The Red Cliff Band urges the Bayfield County Board of Adjustment to uphold the Zoning Committee's decision to deny this incomplete application due to a lack of information within the application and a lack of environmental impact analysis.
The Red Cliff Band remains committed to protecting nibi (water), aki (land), and air of our current and ancestral homelands for our people and the generations to come. Preserving the environment means preserving our treaty rights and our traditional life ways.

Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin Thriving
|
|
Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin Red Cliff Tribal Farm hosted an Open House last week to celebrate its new Farm Office Building and to show off the abundance out in the fields.
Activities started with a blessing of the new building, followed by tours of the farm, presentations of farm happenings, Q&A, and snacks.
Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin operates a greenhouse and two high tunnels (or hoop houses), and grows vegetables in field plots which include perennial beds, native species, and pollinator plantings. The Farm also grows traditional and medicinal plants for community use. The Farm has two apple orchards that are nearly a century old, and both produce a beautiful crop of apples each year. Mixed in the orchard are a few pear trees as well as other stone fruits like plums and cherries. Farm staff operate an annual sugarbush for maple syrup production and raise a flock of laying hens to add diversity to its offerings.
CSA boxes are offered annually along with several other community outreach programs. Currently, Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin opens a Farm Stand every Friday from 10 AM - 4 PM.
The Farm is located at 36735 Aiken Road, next to the Red Cliff Community Health Center.

VA processing disability claims for certain conditions related to particulate matter
|
|
VA is now processing disability claims for asthma, rhinitis and sinusitis on a presumptive basis based on particulate matter exposures during military service in Southwest Asia and certain other areas – if these conditions manifested within 10 years of a qualifying period of military service.
This will expand benefits for Veterans who served in:
- Afghanistan, Djibouti, Syria, and Uzbekistan during the Persian Gulf War, from September 19, 2001, to the present, or
- The Southwest Asia theater of operations from August 2, 1990, to the present
If you have a pending claim for one or more of these conditions, you don’t need to do anything. We’ll send you a decision notice when we complete our review.
To apply for benefits, Veterans and survivors may visit VA.gov or call toll-free at 800-827-1000.
