Tower's Up!
Tower crews completed the construction process Thursday October 24th, and the tower project is now just waiting on shipments of radio equipment to be attached and hooked up. Theron Rutyna, the Tribal IT Director, says that it will be a few more weeks of work on the electronics and ground equipment before the tower will be ready to come online. The Tribe plans to have a ceremony to “light up” the tower and begin providing service. Please watch the newsletter for time and date for the tower lighting ceremony.

Gwen Topping elected to lead Wisconsin Tribal Judges Association
Red Cliff's own Gwen Topping was elected president of the WTJA at their meeting on October 4th this month. The Wisconsin Tribal Judges' Association exists as a voice of equal justice for all and is dedicated to the protection of tribal sovereignty through judicial education, cooperation, collaboration and respectful communication while embracing tribal traditions, customs and values.

Clothing giveaway held at Family & Human Services building
With cold weather just around the corner, the Family & Human Services Division held a clothing giveaway on October 10th and 11th, at the FHS Building. Tables and racks were stacked high with over $164,000 worth of brand new, name brand clothing items for men, women and children. All community members were invited to participate and receive up to two items per person between the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. This huge donation was made by New Threads of Hope in collaboration with the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation with the hope that families of Red Cliff may enjoy a little extra warmth this winter season.

New Threads of Hope, a non-profit organization based in Wauwatosa, WI, connects social service agencies with retailers and manufacturers to provide “new clothes for new opportunities, items to turn a house into a home, and educational materials to foster children's literacy and academic success.”

Throughout the two days, over 100 families attended and received items, taking home jackets, sweaters, winter boots and other cold weather accessories. On behalf of the Red Cliff community, we would like to thank New Threads of Hope and Forest County Potawatomi Foundation for their generosity and making this event possible.

Mad Dog 'n' Merrill is a duo of grill enthusiasts who tour the US highlighting local cuisine for their YouTube channel followers. They came to Treaty Days this year and spent time with Bob Buffalo, talking about food and history.

The World Indigenous Games were first held in 2015 in Brazil, and have been held in Canada ever since. Since then, several other regional and continental Indigenous Nations Games competitions have arisen - the 2020 North American Indigenous Games will be July 15-19 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
