Perfectly Imperfect: Celebrate Your Uniqueness

There is only one you, as a unique expression of the divine.

Embrace and celebrate all that you are, inside and out, and allow your heart-light to shine brighter than ever.

UCOM Hiking Club Enjoys Spectacular

Autumn Colors Near Highlands, NC

Photos by Pat Lucas & Larry Morgan

Looking back, the postponement of last month's hike along Whiteside Mountain Trail was truly in Divine Order. Last Saturday our UCOM hikers celebrated Halloween with perfect weather as they viewed the absolute peak of the autumn colors along the Continental Divide. Pat Lucas responded to the challenge in last week's newsletter by submitting photos that showcased the stupendous views. Happily, Larry Morgan took the above picture of "Photographer Pat" as she appears to be standing "On Top of the World." Excellent work, Pat. And the gauntlet has been thrown down now. What great photos will the rest of you send Editor Suzi Henry in the coming weeks? Her contact phone number and email address can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

And here are the dates for the last two hikes of this year: November 21 and December 19. More details will be shared soon.

The UCOM Gadabouts Zoom into

Our Sanctuary to "Sing for Democracy"

A note from Karen Trostle: "Thank you to the 16 souls who ate with us and sang with us. We stamped our feet, clapped our hands, and went home with happy hearts and happy faces. Special thanks to Walt Massey and Don Jones who engineered the zoom call for us!"

"Singing for Democracy" was a resounding success. Information on the sponsoring organization is shown above. Feel free to check out their website for information about upcoming events.

Karen Drucker emceed the event, and she shared just a bit of her own music before presenting the other vocal artists. The Music Ministry community is loving and giving, and this free event included participants from all over America, as well as places as farflung as New Zealand and Calgary. The demand for registration was overwhelming, with 900 people seeking a spot. Minister Soni Cantrell-Smith, one of the organizers, said they could only accommodate the first 500.

Amy Steinberg is also a talented multi-media artist, and the painting behind her is one of her recent creations. I believe she lives in Asheville. Jami Lula is a dynamic performer and a prolific songwriter. He danced his way across the screen during the entire event.

Danial Nahmod may look like Mr. Rogers, and he started off with a lulling song about peace. But then he broke into a totally unexpected "rap session," seamlessly quoting hundreds of names, each with comments, and he went on and on, never once seeming to take a breath. The flotilla of hearts was released by the awed audience. Karen Drucker was hilarious to watch. She kept grabbing and lifting huge handfuls of that riotous red hair, simulating the top of her head blowing off. Next to Daniel is Eddie Stephens, Jr., joining in from Asheville. He pounds a mean keyboard and has a powerful voice to match.

The amazing Gary Lynn Floyd often collaborates with Karen Drucker, Jami Lula and others. The chat bar on the right was busy the entire hour and 20 minutes, with people (including me) signing in and saying where they are from, their church affiliations, and all sorts of information. If you zoom in very close, focusing at the participant bar at the top of this screen, you will see a little blond head on the left (me) and Karen Drucker right next to me. I was totally stoked the entire time, feeling like I was attending this amazing concert next to one of my very favorite people. It was an experience I will long remember.

November is Homecoming Month -

Rev Robin and Mike Talk About Our 25 Year History

Listening to Rev Robin talk on any topic is always a treat, but in this short video she shares fascinating details about our church's earliest days--even before the turn of the century... Here's one tidbit to whet your interest: In February of 2001, Robin led her very first service, and not long after that she accepted the position of Spiritual Leader, which continued until her husband, Rick was transferred to Texas. A Thanksgiving Letter from Mike Davis

 UNITY CHURCH OF THE MOUNTAINS

 Where the Light Always Shines!

Greetings, beloved friends,

I’m writing this as our homecoming month begins. ICYMI, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary as Unity Church of the Mountains. Maybe you’ve been here for the whole thing. Maybe you got here yesterday. Either way, I think we can all agree that it’s been quite a ride!

There have been plenty of ups and downs, plenty of peaks and valleys, plenty of gains and losses, lots of growth and a few setbacks. Isn’t that a perfect metaphor, a perfect encapsulation of what our entire lives are like?

Through it all we have been guided by love. And as we move into the next phase of our lives together, we will continue to be guided by love.

I am grateful for all of it. I’m grateful for what we have achieved already. I am grateful for the wondrous growth and expansion that we envision going forward. I am grateful for the way our community serves and shares and cares. I’m grateful for the way we laugh and love together.

I love being your Spiritual Leader, and I love every single one of you.

And … you knew this part was coming, didn’t you? I am grateful for the way we all support Unity Church of the Mountains; our mission, our vision, our values and our community. Your financial encouragement is an expression of love and gratitude. We welcome your gifts at any time of year, and especially now in these times of holidays and holy days.

Please give generously, and know that as your gifts go forth to do a mighty work in the world, so they return to us multiplied abundantly. Amen!

For these and for all others whom we hold in our hearts, we know that God

hears our prayer requests, and we see the right and perfect outcome

in their lives, and for their highest good.

Caught Being Helpful

After the Sunday service, Joanne and Jeri noticed that a section of the gutter had come loose. Did they try to find a guy to fix it? Nope. Jeri steadied the ladder, Joanne removed her shoulder bag, climbed the ladder--and fixed it. Nice work, ladies.

Church & Community Outreach

PENNIES FROM HEAVEN - Your generous donations provide assistance for those occasional emergencies that sometimes befall our church family. If you or someone you know needs help, please contact our Spiritual Leader, Mike Davis.

POSITIVE PATHWAYS - We continue to support this worthy organization. They always need individually wrapped snacks. Linda Beaver said that they would also appreciate receiving food items that are packaged in soft pouches, like soup mixes, tuna, instant mashed potatoes, muffin and brownie mixes, to name a few. They're not as bulky as canned items and don't require a can opener.

ECUMENICAL FOOD PANTRY - The list of most needed items is posted in the hallway.

IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW NEEDS HELP - Click here to contact the Congregation Care Team. Our volunteers help our church family by providing meals during a time of recovery, sending cards and providing transportation for medical appointments. For more information or to join the CC team, please contact Jayne Rizner.
