The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation presents an opportunity to amplify Indigenous voices and commit to continuous learning and unlearning. The work does not end here. Collectively, we must recognize the lasting legacy and impacts of colonialism, the inter-generational effects of residential ‘schools’ and the ongoing systemic racism facing Indigenous communities across Canada.

Several community-based organizations are hosting events, conversations, and days of action to commemorate residential ‘school’ Survivors and honour their stories throughout the province. We encourage business owners in Ottawa to take part in these important learning opportunities and reflect on the local and national history that continues to shape the experiences of Indigenous Peoples across Canada. Every sector has a role to play in advancing Truth and Reconciliation and ensuring equitable outcomes across the country.

Over $2 trillion in business assets will be exchanging hands over the next decade across Canada. But only 9% of businesses have a succession plan or exit strategy in place. In many cases, thoughts of the exit stage begin far too late, and the business owner cannot capitalize on a proper succession or transition.

Hear from industry experts and Ottawa small businesses as they provide tips on setting your business up for succession and share their first-hand experience of successful transfers of ownership.

Small businesses are the backbone of Ottawa's community and economy. Against the compounding challenges of the pandemic, these businesses continue to develop new ideas, create more jobs, and facilitate community resilience.

As part of the annual Small Business Week’s Small Business, Big Ideas campaign we are working with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to highlight the impact and potential of small business innovation, and the importance of supporting businesses like yours, beyond recovery and towards evolution.

We invite all small businesses to join and collaborate in our Small Business, Big Ideas promotional video that showcases Ontario’s diverse and dynamic small business climate while shedding light on the visions that make these businesses possible.

Businesses across the Chamber Network can submit a 30-to-40-second video answering one of two questions below.

  1. What inspired your business?
  2. How do you connect to your community?
SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO

Please note that due to the volume of small businesses, only selected video entries will be included in the primary campaign video. By submitting the video, you grant the Ontario Chamber of Commerce permission to reproduce, copy, modify, create derivatives in whole or in part, or otherwise use the Picture(s) or any part thereof in combination with or as a composite of other matter, including, but not limited to, text, data, images, photographs, illustrations, animation and graphics, video or audio segments of any nature, in any and all media or embodiment or formats now known or hereafter devised, and generally all means of exploitation not limited to any form of expression for any purpose whatsoever.
