Shawnee, KS - Forty-six Republican Precinct Committeemen and Committeewomen braved inclement weather to show up for the Senate District 10 Convention to elect Mike Thompson to fulfill the term of Mary Pilcher-Cook, whose retirement takes effect on Thursday, January 16th at 5:00 p.m.. All 46 precinct leaders cast their ballots for Mike Thompson.
"I am incredibly grateful to the Republican Precinct Committeemen and Women from Senate District 10 for trusting me with their votes to fill the remainder of Mary's term. It is an honor to serve and I look forward to getting started," said Thompson.
Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook, who is also a Republican Precinct Committeewoman, gave a nominating speech for Thompson, who then addressed the convention. A certificate officially noting Thompson's election will be delivered to Governor Laura Kelly on Monday morning, who then has seven days to make the appointment. A swearing-in date will be determined once that occurs.
