Remembering Andy

Guiding Lights

Thank You From the Guiding Department

Well the 2012-2013 is done.  And what a great season it was!  This December was one of the best starts to a season we have ever had.  28 days of snow that month meant that the coverage was excellent, the snow DEEP and light and the stability good.  January and February saw the sun reappear and some excellent glacier skiing.  March, as always saw a mix of everything including a week of corn snow that guides love but so seldom get as well as a week of very good stability where we got to ski all of the BIG runs like Galaxy, Harrison Glacier and The big Oliver Creek faces.  I finished off the season doing long, perfect runs on Albreda West in boot top powder for all 5000 feet!

I am already excited to get back out there. Have a fun summer and get in shape for next season!

Stay Safe,

Bob Sayer, Guiding Operations Manager

 Kids and Youth Programs

A large focus at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing is growing the next generation of snowsports participants. Today's youth are the future of the ski industry and its important they are given the programs to build their skills and passion for skiing and snowboarding.

We hosted a Christmas Camp, and an Easter Spring Camp. The kids were treated with a heli ride up to the Grizzly Hut for lunch and some great spring turns in the alpine. Lucky!

This season, also saw the expansion of th CSGA Youth Development Programs including a Spring Ski Touring Course. Guides Crosby Johnson and Scott Streadwick took 8 aspiring ski guides out into the Cariboo backcountry to learn ski touring and camping skills. Needless to say they had a blast, learned key skills, and took home many great memories and stories.

In April, we hosted CSGA courses focused on the further education and certification of ski guides throughout the helicopter skiing industry.

Upcoming Courses

Summer Glacier Course

From September 9-15, 2012 the CSGA will be conducting the Summer Glacier Program in Blue River. It is a skills development program for students engaged in the CSGA program.

Summer Mountain Camp for Youth

From August 19-22, 2013, youth can get an introduction to summer mountain travel including backpacking, rock climbing, glacier travel, and orienteering.
