February 2022 News & Updates
|
|
Greetings Dear Friend,
Welcome to MileStone Academy's February 2022 Newsletter!
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the countless accomplishments of African Americans and recognize our central role in U.S. history, as well as a time to shine a light on the story of the larger Black displacement.
Since 1976, every American president has chosen February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme. This year’s theme is Black Health and Wellness. This focus will celebrate the contributions and breakthroughs of Black professionals as well as speaking to the cultural richness of those “non-traditional” health and wellness practitioners (e.g., doulas, midwives, etc.).
Black History is American History. Let these 28 days serve as more than a moment — let them be the renewal of a movement.
February’s newsletter will share the most recent MileStone Happenings and provide you with important educational tips and resources. Here is what you look can forward to:
- Happenings at MileStone Academy
- Classroom News
- Educational Tips and Resources
- Staff Updates and Career Opportunities
- Parent and Student Updates

A Message From Mrs. Brown...
|
Each February, National Black History Month serves as both a celebration and a powerful reminder that Black history is American history, Black culture is American culture, and Black stories are essential to the ongoing story of America — our faults, our struggles, our progress, and our aspirations.
Shining a light on Black history today is as important to understanding ourselves and growing stronger as a Nation as it has ever been. That is why it is essential that we take time to celebrate the immeasurable contributions of Black Americans, honor the legacies and achievements of generations past, reckon with centuries of injustice, and confront those injustices that still fester today.
With Love,
Mrs. Michelle Brown

A Trade School Could be Your Path to Business Ownership
|

If you are like a lot of young people, running your own business is a career dream. However, it is no secret that doing so is difficult as many businesses fail within a few years of opening. One of the most common causes of failure is not having enough capital to cover expenses before reaching self-sustainability.

Across the generations, countless Black Americans have demonstrated profound moral courage and resilience to help shape our Nation for the better.
Today, Black Americans lead industries and movements for change, serve our communities and our Nation at every level, and advance every field across the board, including arts and sciences, business and law, health and education, and many more.
In the face of wounds and obstacles older than our Nation itself, Black Americans can be seen in every part of our society today, strengthening and uplifting all of America.
