Honoring Juneteenth 2022 – From Emancipation to Higher Education

To celebrate Juneteenth 2022, students from renowned Birmingham, Alabama, HBCU Miles College spoke with Hibbett Sports| City Gear about the value they place on education and what it means to them to have the opportunity to pursue higher education thanks to the people and events leading up to and after June 19, 1865.

Thank you to our friends at Hibbett Sports for this great feature about Miles College and our students.

Alumni Spotlight!

Miles College Alumni Featured in Black Enterprise Magazine!

“Well for 30 years that hasn’t happened and with Dale’s interest, enthusiasm and passion for the business hopefully we won’t have to hear that for another 30 or 40 years. It has been a joy to watch him grow from playground manager all the way through college, getting a degree in business and being here today, I can’t think of better than having an opportunity to grow together and to watch him.”

In addition to having the fast-food giant in common, Larry and Dale are also HBCU alumni. Larry attended Alabama State University while Dale attended Miles College and both have given back to their schools.

Words from Leon Moody Director of Student Activities -

"I want to thank Keila Lawrence (Alumni) for enabling this opportunity to happen for Miles College. I will give credit where it is due. She contacted me about the Israel Consulate wanting to take a trip and visit Miles campus to help with their studies of HBCUs. Keila asked me who else to help with this visit, so naturally I said Courtney L. Sankey. Courtney put together the entire itinerary for their visit. Fast forward, Monday, the Israel Consulate came to Miles and learned much more than they expected and both Courtney and myself received tokens of appreciation for being their facilitators for this event. Thank you Keila & Courtney."
