MAY 2025

The life-changing impact of a Freedom Service Dog is often felt far beyond the person the dog has been partnered with. It also touches the lives of friends, family, and even entire communities. For Miles, a young boy living with spastic triplegic cerebral palsy, and his family, FSD Service Dog Ravioli has brought immeasurable independence, joy, and hope.

At this year’s 13th Annual Diamonds in the Ruff: Fast & Furriest, we were honored to debut Miles and Ravioli’s heartwarming story. Now, we invite you to witness the magic of their partnership as well!

Our spring grads are blossoming

Spring is in full bloom and so are the new FSD graduates! These remarkable teams spent two weeks at the FSD facility bonding with their new furry partners, going on public outings with our knowledgeable FSD trainers, practicing the custom cues their dog learned to meet their unique needs, and learning the ins and outs of their new lives together. Before heading home for the first time, the teams completed their ADI Public Access Tests and FSD Professional Therapy Dog evaluations. Now, they’re embarking on an incredible new chapter filled with happiness, hope, and independence. Congrats, grads!

CELEBRATING EMS WEEK

In celebration of EMS Week from May 18-24, we recognize and honor the incredible emergency medical services professionals who save lives and protect our communities every day.

To show just how grateful we were, FSD staff and volunteers, along with service dogs in training, spent the week visiting local first responder lounges, fire stations and hospitals to deliver puppy love to Colorado heroes.

THANK YOU, EMS WORKERS!

CO Rockies aim to Hit the Mitt for FSD

Our incredible friends at UCHealth and the Colorado Rockies are stepping up to the plate for FSD’s mission through Hit the Mitt! Through the 2025 baseball season, UCHealth will donate $5,000 to FSD each time a Rockies player either hits the mitt sign or sends a home run in the left-field tunnel.

But the fun and generosity doesn’t stop there! On June 5, UCHealth will host its annual Healthy Swings charity home run derby at Coors Field in support of our important work. Professional athletes will swing for the fences, and the farther the ball flies, the more UCHealth will donate to FSD. Limited tickets are now available for only $10!

We’re incredibly grateful to be the charity recipient of this year’s Hit the Mitt and Healthy Swings and can’t wait to cheer from the stands as the batters swing for a good cause!

Military Appreciation Month

This Military Appreciation Month, we would like to thank all the brave service members who sacrificed for our country.

At FSD, we are dedicated to empowering our nation's heroes by partnering them with highly-skilled assistance dogs who help veterans live with more confidence and independence.

If you are a veteran living with PTSD, TBI, or other service-related injuries who may benefit from a Freedom Service Dog, please reach out for more information.

Learn pet CPR & first aid

Knowing how to perform CPR and first aid on pets can be lifesaving. That’s why our pals at K9 Educators are generously offering discounted, self-paced online courses in pet CPR and first aid for the FSD community! When you use code FSDDOGS, you’ll receive 5% off your course, which includes a canine CPR certification, and $20 of your purchase will benefit FSD’s mission.

Colorado Residents: We’re hosting an in-person pet CPR and first aid course with K9 Educators on July 26, and a portion of the proceeds will support FSD. Stay tuned for more details soon—spots will be limited!
