Cheers to 20 Years
We did it! Building STEPS celebrated our 20th anniversary. A huge thank you to every volunteer, corporate partner, seminar host, and generous supporter who had a hand in our students' success. If you missed the virtual celebration, watch our video, particularly at the time 20:28 to see Building STEPS in action. It's not too late to make your 20th anniversary gift. Every dollar today makes a difference.
A Round of Applause
Congratulations to the Class of 2020! We're so proud of their hard work, perseverance and achievements. 92% of our remarkable seniors qualified for financial aid, 54% will attend school on a full ride, and collectively they will attend 17 unique four-year colleges and universities. This is not a good-bye...we support them through the college years and beyond.
Meaningful Change
Working with Baltimore City students, we are painfully aware of racial inequality and injustice. Building STEPS is committed to diversity, inclusion and respect and are doubling down on our actions to stand up to injustice.

We are working to further educate ourselves and having conversations on how to expand and extend our diverse and inclusive culture to our students, alumni and stakeholders. Our productive actions include professional and social development, paid time off for volunteering and proactive community engagement. These first steps are part of our long-term commitment to create a better world for the community we serve. We are proud of what we have accomplished in the last 20 years and will work even harder in the next 20.
Summer Session with Building STEPS
Summer Experience is going remote! Through our inventive, interactive and relevant programming, our summer interns will learn practical teleworking skills, start their college essay (with the help of virtual writing advisors), hone SAT math skills and engage in virtual STEM experiences. Thank goodness for Zoom and our Chromebook library!
Building STEPS Young Professional Series
We greatly miss seeing our Building STEPS Young Professionals (BSYP) in person, but we continue to provide beneficial, monthly resources virtually. The BSYP Council has lined up business professionals to discuss tips on resume writing, using LinkedIn and career development. Please contact Sheyna Mikeal if you/your company is interested in discussing professional opportunities for our alumni.

"Towson University and Building STEPS have been linked from the beginning, and it’s incredibly rewarding to have been a witness to their growth and impact over these past 20 years, 15 for me personally. TU values our partnership and joint commitment to supporting Baltimore’s bright and incredible youth as they not only access, but graduate from college."

“At MileOne Autogroup, philanthropy is a key component to our company’s vision and mission. Building STEPS is an organization we have been a partner with since 2015 because we strongly believe in the work they are doing to help Baltimore City public school students attend college and then enter the workforce. Congratulations on 20 years, Building STEPS!”
