We've Moved!
In July, Milford School District's administrative office moved from the Milford South building on Garfield Avenue to the former Milford Miami Township Library at 1099 State Route 131. The new space, which is more centrally located in the district, has a Board meeting room, conference space, and offices for the Superintendent, Treasurer, Curriculum, Human Resources, Food Service, Business, Technology, Central Registration, and EMIS staff.
Beginning later this fall, regular Board of Education meetings will be held at this location.
The main phone number for the district's administrative office is still (513) 831-1314, but our central office fax number has changed to (513) 965-6159. A community open house to tour our new offices will be held later this school year.

District 2018-2019 Calendar
This school year there are a few changes to our traditional calendar. Based on feedback from teachers, staff, and parents, we have added a Fall Break. This five-day break runs from Friday, October 14 through Tuesday, October 16.
Spring Break will begin after the last day of the third quarter on Friday, March 15. Classes then resume on March 25. In addition, we will not have school the Friday before and the Monday after Easter (April 19 and 22).
For working parents who are in need of child care over these breaks, our extended day program will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. except for April 19 and 22. For staffing purposes, parents must enroll in extended day and sign up in advance. Extended day is waiving the administrative/enrollment fee for those using the program only for Fall Break. For child care during Fall Break, you must sign up between
September 3-7, 2018. Extended day must have 50 or more children signed up each day to open. Please contact our extended day program for details at (513) 831-9690.
Each year, a public hearing on the school calendar is held at a regular Board meeting. After feedback is received from staff and parents, there is a first reading of the calendar and then the Board approves the final school calendar at the following meeting. Approval of the 2019-2020 school calendar is expected to take place this fall.

Milford Parents Start Foundation to Feed our Flock
Two Milford parents saw a problem and stepped up to find a solution.
Milford parent Sara Huseman began Feed our Flock in the spring of 2017. Sara was inspired after she and Audra Haynes began volunteering to distribute weekly food bags provided by the SonRise Backpack Ministry program. Each week, more than 320 Milford elementary students in need of meals over the weekend receive a food bag. The Backpack Ministry program stops at 6th grade, but Sara and Audra saw a need at th
e junior high and high school. The pair has collected money and food items to stock movable pantries at Milford Junior High, the Ninth Grade Community, Milford High School, and the Success Academy. Students are able to take what they need and do so in a discreet way.
Over the past year, the program has grown to the point that a storage space was needed for items used to stock the pantries bi-weekly. The district found space in the cafeteria at the high school and with the help of the kitchen and maintenance staff, plus $800 in funding from the Milford Kiwanis Club, the new pantry will be up and running for the start of school.
Feed our Flock Foundation is a charitable trust organized for the exclusive purpose of relieving poverty, facilitating access to wellness, and tending to care of the whole person of children in Milford. They are a non-profit 501(c)(3).

Milford Develops Portrait of a Graduate
Over the past several months, Milford Exempted Village School District has been working to develop our vision for student success, called Portrait of a Graduate. Milford has partnered with Battelle for Kids to facilitate the Portrait of a Graduate work. Our planning team is composed of district administrators, teachers, support staff, Board of Education members, parents, band and athletic boosters, graduates, and business and community leaders. The team has been reviewing current research and relevant data and asking important questions to identify a prioritized set of competencies that will best prepare students for success in college, careers, and citizenship in the 21st century. The plan is locally developed with a global perspective.
"The Portrait of a Graduate is a different approach to strategic planning. We are beginning with the end goal, which is centered on the key competencies a Milford student needs to be successful after graduation," said Milford Superintendent Nancy House. "In the fall, we will engage our community in a strategic planning process that will put into place an updated vision, mission, and measurable goals to turn this Portrait of a Graduate into a reality."

Website Updates
Over the summer, Milford updated the district website to make it more user-friendly for our visitors. The site now has links to the school pages in a more prominent location. Quick links have been replaced with "Shortcuts" to our most frequently-visited pages. You will also find news and upcoming events on the main page. In addition, the main navigation bar has been streamlined and features dropdown menus for easier navigation.
The district funds the bulk of our website costs through advertising revenue. If you are interested in purchasing an ad, please contact Legend Web Works at (513) 492-9008.

Record Summer Volunteer Hours for Service Recognition
Make sure your 9-12th grade students are recording their summer volunteer hours for service recognition. Students can record hours for their own purposes and awards through
Innerview.org. For school recognition/awards, students should turn in their service verification forms to their class advisors on the first day of school. (Mission trips, VBS, camps do count). Any hours for a 501 organization can be recorded for school awards.
Service hours are no longer required for graduation, but our students continue to volunteer countless hours to our community. Pictured is an overview of service hours recorded for May.
