Community Advisory Team's Facilities Planning Process
The third meeting of the Milford School District's Community Advisory Team was held on July 31. The meeting was videotaped by ICRC TV and will be posted online next week.
Part of this facilities planning process includes forums open to the community. The district intended to host the first of these forums during the week of August 5. The CAT reached a consensus to delay the first forum to allow more time to develop a draft of facility options to share with the community. The public will have the opportunity to share feedback on these options.
“It is critical that we do not rush this planning process. We want the CAT to have the appropriate background, history, and planning tools to help make their recommendations,” shared Milford Superintendent Nancy House. “I have been impressed by the thoughtful questions and energy from the team to bring forward the best plan for the future of our facilities.”
The district will be setting the new time for the first community forum in the upcoming weeks.
The team's goal is to develop a consensus facility master plan to present to the Milford Board of Education this fall.

Milford School District Named Top Workplace
For the third straight year, Milford School District has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2019 honor by The Cincinnati Enquirer.
“We are fortunate to have such a wonderful staff who place our students first and collaborate and innovate to help each other and our students soar,” said Superintendent Nancy House.
The Top Workplace distinction measures several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection.

2019-2020 Calendar Change
The Board amended the 2019-2020 district calendar to change a regularly scheduled day for students in March to a Teacher Inservice Day. In 2020, Tuesday, March 17, will be a primary election day. Because of our schools being polling locations and limited parking, the district will change this day to a Teacher Inservice Day with no school for students on March 17, 2020.

This weekend is a perfect time for back-to-school shopping. Ohio's sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 2 at 12:00 a.m. and ends on Sunday, August 4 at 11:59 p.m.
The following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
-Clothing priced at $75 per item or less;
-School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and
-School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less

Open Houses/Schedule Pick Up
Milford High School will host schedule pick up days on August 8 and 9. Open houses will be held throughout the district on Thursday, August 15.
Our elementary schools will be mailing postcards with important back-to-school information and class assignments the first week of August.

Update FinalForms
A reminder that parents/guardians must update and complete all forms online through FinalForms prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

PaySchools Central
As of July 1, 2019, Milford School District switched its online payment system from EZPay to PaySchools Central. The new system is more cost-effective, has more advanced features, and will be more convenient for our parents to use.

Summer Reading
At the top of the page, you will find links for all of our summer reading assignments for English classes 9-12. This year, Summer reading will only apply to incoming 9th-12th graders who will read the 2019 selection, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon.

Online Absence Reporting
A link to this form is posted on the home page of each school. Absences must be reported prior to the start of the school day. Through this online form, parents can also report planned absences in advance.

Find Your Child’s Bus Route via Elinks
After August 9, Milford's Transportation Department will share bus routes electronically via Elinks. No postcards will be mailed home with routing information. Please recheck this information again a few days before school starts on August 19.
Check your child's bus routes online at the following link:
- MEVSD parents use your child's student ID number for both the username and password.
- Private/parochial students served by Milford Schools use your 10-digit phone number for both username and password.
- Click on “work with students.”
- Click on “view my students.”
- Click on your “student's name” to view transportation record.

Back-to-School Immunization Clinic
Clermont County Public Health is coming to Milford High School to offer incoming 7th and 12th grade students vaccinations for the 2019-2020 school year.
Last day to sign up for the vaccine clinic is no later than Monday, August 5.
Parents/guardians must have the required vaccines or have a signed waiver on file before September 6, 2019 or their child may be excluded from attending school.

Rising Teachers Excel at Nationals
This Summer, Milford High School students in the Teaching Professions Academy competed at the Educators Rising National Competition in Texas. Milford ended up with two teams in the Top 10 in the nation!
Brianna Dietrich, Sarah Ehrman, and Lindsay Schaeffer (pictured) placed third in the nation for their project called Learning Disabilities and Challenges. Sofia Bassano, Maddie Lambdin, Anna Renaker, and Olivia Worthington placed 6th in the nation for their project called Inside our School Innovative Concept.
The Teaching Professions Academy, taught by Jennifer Norsworthy
at Milford High School,
is a satellite program of Great Oaks Career Campuses.

Milford Ensembles Selected to Perform at OMEA
Both the Milford High School Wind Ensemble and our Percussion Ensemble were selected to perform at the Ohio Music Association Conference to be held January 30-February 1, 2020 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati.
More than 135 ensembles from throughout the state auditioned so it is quite an accomplishment to be selected!

Milford’s Last Operating Levy Hits 6 Year Anniversary
Did you know it's been more than 6 years since Milford Schools required an operating levy? That's the second-longest stretch without a levy in the history of the district. Check out our latest post about Milford's operating levy history and how the district is doing more with less to make the 2013 levy dollars last as long as possible.
How has Milford made the 2013 operating levy last so long? Through a combination of prudent fiscal management and additional revenue from various sources, like the state and a renegotiated agreement with Union Township.
Extra revenue has been helpful, but disciplined spending has also had major impact on the lifespan of the last levy. Over the past six years, Milford has made a conscious effort to do more with less.
According to Ohio School Report Cards, Milford spends less per student than the average Ohio district with between 5,000 and 9,999 students. Milford ranks 33 out of 45 similarly sized districts in terms of per-pupil spending, and is well below the state average.

What is a Facilities Master Plan?
Our job as educators is to prepare students for their future. Today’s students will have a future that is substantially different than the world previous generations experienced. As the world around us changes, so too should our educational spaces.
Milford's facilities master plan (FMP) was designed in 2000 to do just that - improve our educational spaces to meet the needs of today's students.

Support Local School Supply Drive
Joe Kuethe, an Edward Jones financial advisor in Milford, is supporting local schools and children in need by using his office as a drop-off location for a school supply drive. Local residents and businesses may help by bringing in donations to the Edward Jones branch office during regular business hours from July 15 through August 16 at 5881 Cook Road in Milford.

Milford's Special Olympians Soar at State
Congrats to our Milford High School athletes who competed in the 2019 State Summer Games held at The Ohio State University in July. These Eagles brought home lots of hardware!
Special thanks to MHS teacher Trena Panko and her sidekick Buffy who traveled with the team and all the parents and supporters who came out to cheer on our athletes.

Community Swim Hours for August
Our pool is ready to go! After being repainted this summer, the Milford High School pool is reopening in August for family/adult swim sessions.
A reminder that MEVSD residents can swim for free. Check out the calendar below for open swim dates.
A waiver of liability must be signed by all swimmers and by a parent or legal guardian for participants under the age of 18. Any participant under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian present to swim.
