Eagle eNews - August 14, 2020
This week's video message from Superintendent John Spieser:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Clermont County is RED this week, does that change our start date?

Clermont County is currently considered RED according to the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. Click here to see the map and more information from the state about this system.

The colors are released weekly. Clermont County is considered RED until next Thursday, August 20. Clermont County being RED this week does not affect our start date of August 24, but we will examine all factors and make a determination next Thursday.

In addition to an update on our County's color according to the Public Health Advisory System, we receive information each Thursday from the Clermont County Health Department. This additional information is used to make a determination between switching from Plan A to Plan B. In Plan A - students are In-Person and in Eagle Online. In Plan B - students who were In-Person switch to Remote Learning and students who are in Eagle Online stay in Eagle Online.

It is important to note that the color coded system is NOT the sole factor we use to determine switching between Plan A and Plan B. There may be instances where the entire county is under Level 3 (red) but the Board and the Superintendent may determine it is safe for students and staff for Plan A to be enacted. For example, Clermont County as a whole could be under Level 3 (red) for an outbreak concentrated in the southern portion of the county that does not directly impact our school community. Or, our Milford Schools community could have a higher concentration of cases while Clermont County as a whole is at Level 2, making it necessary for the Board and Superintendent to enact Plan B.

Updates are released each Thursday. We will update parents next week as soon as a determination is made.
Teachers Returned to Buildings Today

Let's give a warm welcome back to our staff! Today was the first day for teachers to return to the buildings to begin to prepare for the first day of school. Teachers have a full week of professional development next week before students return Monday, August 24.
Meadowview Elementary staff give a thumbs at the start of their day of professional development.
Return to Learning Plan Updates

The Return to Learning Plan has been updated. Click here to download the document - click on the red rectangle on the left side that says DOWNLOAD PLAN.

Here is an overview of the changes made:

  • Page 11 - The Plan previously stated that a doctor's note was required prior to a child returning to school if they were sent home from school with a fever. A doctor's note is not required and the child is allowed to return to school in 24 hours if they no longer have a fever and they do not exhibit any other symptoms of COVID-19. However, if a child is diagnosed with other illnesses such as strep, mono, flu, etc., a doctor's note is required upon their return.
  • Page 15 - Minor update made to the wording regarding the school health clinic. A student feeling ill will be isolated away from other students.
  • Page 15 - Wording clarified to specify that a note is not required for a student to return to school if they are sent home with a fever, as long as they do not have a fever and do not have any other COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Page 15 - Bullet added: if a child is quarantined due to close contact with a positive COVID-19 case, or if that child tested positive for COVID-19, the Clermont County Health Department will release them from quarantine and they can return to school. A previous version of the Plan stated that the child will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test. This was amended based on guidance provided by the health department.
  • Page 20 - Information added to clarify the Board's vote to approve the Return to Learning Plan - Plan A and Plan B. The Board voted to approve the plan and therefore, unless there are significant changes in local health data trends and the Ohio Public Health Advisory System, Milford students will begin school August 24.
Let's stay healthy, Eagles!

In order for students and staff to return to school safely, we ask everyone in our Milford community to:

We have developed specific protocols for what happens if a student or teacher tests positive for COVID-19.

The chart also specifies what happens when a student is feeling ill at school and is sent home. As we receive additional guidance from the Clermont County Health Department, this chart is updated. The latest update was made today.

Click here to download the flow chart. (To make sure you are viewing the most recent document, take a look at the bottom right hand corner, where we have added the date it was updated.)

The first page of the flow chart has a school building icon at the top - indicating the steps taken when a student or employee reports illness while at school.

The second page of the flow chart has a home icon at the top - indicating the steps taken when a student or employee is feeling ill while at home.

These shields will be placed on the student's desk and they will take them with them when they move around the school building to different classrooms and for use at lunch.

These shields will provide an extra protection for students and staff along with wearing face masks.
