UPDATES & INFORMATION:
CONGRATS TO NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS

Congratulations to the following Milford High School Seniors for being named National Merit Semifinalists: Blake Marcin, Vishnu Rajkumar, and Emma Strickland! They achieved success on the PSAT taken during their junior year. The College Board recognizes high achieving students and their performance. More than 1.5 million juniors nationwide took the test and they are now part of the small pool of highest-scoring entrants in our state. Congratulations!
A SPECIAL WELCOME HOME

Milford High School Freshmen Aiden Brehm received a special surprise this week when his brother, Jake, returned to Milford High School so the two could share an emotional and surprise reunion.

Aiden and his classmates were walking around the perimeter of the school on a "mask break" when his brother came out to surprise him. Jake, a 2019 graduate, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and because of the global pandemic, had not been able to return home nor see his family since earlier this year.

Aiden's teachers, counselors, and administrators, with the special help of his aunt, Liz Hartley, MHS Counselor, helped coordinate this special reunion.
A 2020 KIND OF HOMECOMING
AT MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL

Homecoming Week is next week at Milford High School!

Next week is spirit week - students will dress up as different themes each day such as "Binge Watching Character Day," "Destination Staycation Day," and "Zoom Call Day." All students both in-person and online are encouraged to participate.

The Pep Rally that typically would occur in the gym during the school day has been moved to a virtual event, and the Homecoming Dance will be a virtual "Stay at HOMEcoming" dance on Saturday.

REVERSE HOMECOMING PARADE WEDNESDAY AT 7:00 P.M.

On Wednesday, September 30 Student Council will host a “Reverse Homecoming Parade” - which means that instead of the traditional homecoming parade, student groups, clubs, extracurriculars and sports teams will be set up along the drive behind the high school, and the community is invited to drive through campus to show their support. The parade begins at 7:00 Wednesday evening. See a map of the parade route below.

Student council has done a great job reimagining these events allowing students to have great experiences and create wonderful memories.

Freshman Student Council Member Isabella Showalter said, "From spirit week to having virtual dance challenges, every student is presented with a chance to get in on the action. I think it will be great opportunity for our school community to become closer, which is more important this year than ever before."

Please be aware that Winners Way (the drive that wraps around the high school) and the high school parking lot will close at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for parade preparations. The parade begins promptly at 7:00 and ends at 8:00 p.m. The parade route begins from the entrance off State Route 131.
FROM AROUND THE DISTRICT

Check out what's been happening this week in our classrooms!
Students in Blaire Schlosser's Eagle Online class conduct virtual morning meetings and afternoon check-outs together.
SHIVER ME TIMBERS! Students in Miss Belsky's Second Grade Class at Boyd E. Smith Elementary School celebrated Talk Like a Pirate Day with silly words, crafts, and great outfits.
Freshmen in Honors Biology spent time outside drawing diagrams and sharing details about organic compounds.
Mulberry Elementary students in Mrs. Dingus' Third Grade Class learned about native plants as they made scientific observations in the outdoor classroom.
Mrs. Dingus' students also had a blast studying types of rocks in Earth Science, then they learned how volcanoes erupt and create igneous rocks.
Fourth graders in Ms. Swing's class at Boyd E. Smith Elementary School first learned how to draw different facial features and characteristics such as glasses, freckles, hair type, then they folded their paper to show themselves with a mask on and with a mask off. The unfolded part not only displays their smile, but includes a variety of adjectives they used to describe themselves: athletic, friendly, smart, and kind.
Choreographer and Professional Performer Leslie Goddard Baum, seen dancing (front row, right side) in the video above (click on the image to play it) has been working with Katie Arber, Theater Teacher and Director at Milford High School for the last seven years. Ms. Baum has performed in Hairspray on Broadway and Jersey Boys in Las Vegas. She came to MHS to work with students - they are dancing to music from the famous tap musical called 42nd Street.
Students in Mrs. Baker's Kindergarten Class at Boyd E. Smith Elementary School created their own penguin artwork after reading the book "Little Pip."
BAND BOOSTERS VIRTUAL DONATION DAY

If you have lived in Milford for any length of time, you will recall members of the Milford Band knocking on your door in late August to collect donations for the Band program. The Boosters typically raise more than $10,000 each year on this "Donation Day" thanks to contributions from our generous community members.

Due to ongoing health and safety concerns, the Band Boosters have moved this year's fundraiser online. Every dollar raised goes to the direct support of Band programs in the Milford School District from 6th to 12th grades - everything from our Beginning Band classes to our award-winning academic ensembles, as well as our nationally ranked Marching Band, Color Guard, and Winter Drumline programs.

While this year looks a bit different from years past, the music still sounds just as good, and the continued support of our generous Milford community will keep it playing long into the future. Please consider giving to our Virtual Donation Day. Band members are setting up individual donation pages or you can make a general donation by clicking here.
INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING:
GIVE US YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SCHOOL CALENDAR

Believe it or not we are already thinking about the school calendar for next year. We asked our staff for feedback and we'd like feedback from our parents as well. We want to know your thoughts on our start date and end date, and your feelings about fall break and spring break. Please take a few minutes to participate in the Thought Exchange - which is our online feedback-gathering tool. Click here to access the Thought Exchange poll. For reference, click here to see this year's academic school calendar.
