The Milford Youth Center would like to invite the community to our ninth annual St. Pat's Fundraiser on Friday, March 29, 2019! Please consider joining us for our largest fundraiser of the year at CraftRoots Brewing, which is located at 4 Industrial Rd., in Milford from 7 - 11 PM. The event will include live music, community awards, raffles and appetizers!

Tickets are available at the Youth Center and online through UniPay here. Tickets are $30 each and come with a pint of beer! We would appreciate and be so grateful for your support to make this event a success by considering attending, donating, and/or contributing a raffle prize. All proceeds of the event go towards the free physical fitness and educational programs of the Center. To thank you for your contribution we will publicly recognize your business/organization at the event, in our monthly newsletter, social media and the newspapers.

Fundraisers like this, help staff continue to work towards our mission, which is to provide a safe environment that promotes self-esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. By providing Milford youth with programs and a safe environment during the after-school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promote the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford. We have now been in our renovated facility for almost three years and have seen the attendance, programs and events flourish! We have almost 500 registered After School members for this school year alone, and the number continues to grow each day.  We see hundreds more throughout the week through our additional programs and rentals.

If you need additional information, please call the Center at 508-473-1756. Thank you in advance for your contribution.

The Milford Youth Center has become the focal point for the children of Milford. It hosts many different activities and events throughout the year for the youth of Milford and/or the Milford Schools. The Milford Youth Center's after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6 pm, Monday through Friday (check monthly calendar, website and social media for any changes due to weather, holidays or vacation weeks).  All Youth members must be picked up by time of closing (unless they walk home).  Pick up is outside of the building on 24 Pearl St. Please visit our  website  for both our  weather policy  and  traffic control plan

All participants must fill out a  registration form annually to be a member. Once this form is completed and returned to the Center, the member will be provided with a key tag and ID number. (if they are new members to the program). This will be how the Youth Center staff will track attendance. Therefore, all members are required to bring in their key tag in order to enter the facility. If key tag is lost, the Center will charge $1.00 for replacement.

The game room, lounge and gymnasium will be offered daily. There will be structured programs that participants must sign up for to participate in. Members are also able to use our washer and dryer, free of charge during operation hours. The Center also offers a free snack and dinner program, due to the collaboration of CACFP, Hockomock Area YMCA and the Milford School Food & Nutrition Services department.

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the after-school program or during the morning hours! We are always looking for help during the after school hours, 2-6 PM. You may also run a program/activity during the after-school program. We also need volunteers for our monthly evening events. Please  contact us  here if you would like to volunteer.
 Comfort Dog Pilot Program
& Animal Assisted Therapy for Youths!

The Milford Youth Center would like to thank the Greater Milford Community Health Network for awarding the Youth Center and Community Impact Inc. a grant to support a comfort dog pilot program & Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) for youths!

This program will have two phases. The first will be to create a Comfort Dog Pilot program, which utilizes a temperamentally tested and AKC certified comfort animal to be incorporated into MYC youth programming; the second phase will be to partner with Community Impact Inc. to provide community outpatient individual AAT programming to MYC youths at the MYC facility. Through the provision of an AAT program, the MYC wishes to address Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) Priority Area 2: Mental Health and Substance Abuse, and will particularly address the following:
  • Objective 2.1: Decrease the number of middle and high school students' overall reports of feeling "very" stressed in the past 30 days and youth who reported feeling depressive symptoms in the past 12 months.
We can't wait to see this program start and thank you again to the generosity of the Greater Milford Community Health Network!

MYC Youth Council (MYCYC) Updates:  February 2019

MYC Youth Council is a leadership and community service-based organization comprised of Afterschool members of all ages striving to make a difference in the community through facilitating several youth community events as well as taking part in volunteer opportunities!

This past month our Youth Council members have focused on showing their appreciation for the community of Milford! For our first
meeting of the month, Youth Council made cards for the Milford Police Department and presented them to Stacy school resource officer and MYC volunteer Mark Castiglione on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day!

Youth Council also assisted our AmeriCorps member Marissa in updating our Community Outreach Board, which she takes to Woodland Elementary, Stacy Middle, and MHS once monthly to educate others on the programs and facilities the MYC has to offer our community! For our meeting shortly before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Youth Council made a mural of hands to show that although we may all be different, our differences together make us stronger!

We were also fortunate enough to have Al Correia invite us onto his show to interview us about our favorite parts about the MYC! We'd also like to give a huge thank you to Liz Harkins from MilfordTV for coming in to give us lessons on proper use and operation of recording equipment, thank you so much Liz and everyone at MilfordTV for giving us the opportunity to explore such an interesting field!

In honor of National Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17th) the youth are decorating hearts and writing an act of kindness on them!  We are asking for the entire Milford community to get involved (schools, teams, religious groups, organizations, etc.)!  Collection boxes are at the Milford Youth Center (24 Pearl St.) and Community Impact Inc. (12 Main St.).
Please join us on February 15th at 5pm, outside the Milford Youth Center while we hang the hearts! If you are interested in participating, please contact Lisa Trusas  here .
