The show will take place on Saturday, June 8th at 6:30 pm! The participants will be able to enjoy getting their hair and make up done and have a fun night with their friends while dressing up and walking a runaway to music by DJ Ron Auger!

An information session and sign-up meeting will take place TONIGHT,  Wed., May 1st  at 6:30 pm at the Milford Youth Center. We also hope this event will increase youth self-esteem and attitudes toward their body image! For photo's from last years event, click here.

We are also in need of hair dressers/makeup artists to help out for a couple hours before the show, on June 8th to do hair and makeup. Please contact the Center at 508-473-1756 or email here if interested! Any help is appreciated!

The Milford Youth Center has become the focal point for the children of Mil
ford. It hosts many different activities and events throughout the year for the youth of Milford and/or the Milford Schools. The Milford Youth Center's after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6 pm, Monday through Friday (check monthly calendar, website and social media for any changes due to weather, holidays or vacation weeks).  All Youth members must be picked up by time of closing (unless they walk home).  Pick up is outside of the building on 24 Pearl St. Please visit our  website  for both our  weather policy  and  traffic control plan
All participants must fill out a  registration form  annually to be a member.  Once this form is completed and returned to the Center, the member will be provided with a key tag and ID number.  (if they are new members to the program).  This will be how the Youth Center staff will track attendance.  Therefore, all members  are  required to bring in their key tag in order to enter the facility. If key tag is lost, the Center will charge $1.00 for replacement.

The game room, lounge and gymnasium will be offered daily. There will be structured programs that participants must sign up for to participate in. Members are also able to use our washer and dryer,
free of charge during operation
hours. The Center also offers a free snack and dinner program, due to the collaboration of CACFP, Hockomock Area YMCA and the Milford School Food & Nutrition Services department.

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the after-school program or during the morning hours! We are always looking for help during the after school hours, 2-6 PM. You may also run a program/activity during the after-school program. We also need volunteers for our monthly evening events. Please  contact us   here  if you would like to volunteer.

MYC Participates in Community Events!

As much as possible, MYC and staff tries to participate in community events and programs. In fact, the vision of the Milford Youth Center is to provide a safe environment that promotes self-esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. We truly believe that it takes an entire community to lead the way!

This past month, AmeriCorps member Marissa and our new Program Coordinator Kathleen attended the JAG Networking Breakfast and also had an information table! Jen, the Director and Katie the Assistant Director attended the Milford Senior Center's annual Volunteer Breakfast, an event to recognize thevolunteers over the past year! The Center also held a tour for the Milford Senior Center's Men's Group this month. The group reached out to have a full tour of the facility and we loved having them here to learn about the history and programs! In addition, the entire full-time staff and Youth Council members participated in Milford  Beautification Day, an event organized by the Citizens for Milford and Friends of the Milford Upper Charles Trail! The group was assigned two areas in Town and picked up
over 15 bags of trash! Finally, Marissa, our SCI AmeriCorps member helped out and attended Social Capital Inc's  Annual Luncheon, which  raised over $15,000 for the organization! Social Capital Inc's mission is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. The Milford Youth Center partners with Social Capital each year to obtain a full-time AmeriCorps member! The SCI AmeriCorps program with Social Capital Inc. addresses the need to increase social capital to improve the educational success of youth!

MYC Youth Council (MYCYC) Updates:  May  2019

MYC Youth Council is a leadership and community service-based organization comprised of Afterschool members of all ages striving to make a difference in the community through facilitating several youth community events as well as taking part in volunteer opportunities! This month Youth Council has been very busy involving themselves in various events and helping around the Youth Center! For our first meeting, we took the initiative to create a new set of Kindness Rocks, which we will be hiding along the Upper Charles Trail at the end of the month!

Despite not being able to have a meeting for the second week of April due to our AmeriCorps member and Youth Council Leader Marissa attending the annual SCI Luncheon in Boston, Youth Council members still were busy helping out at the Youth Center! Thanks to the generosity of Liz Harkins and the rest of the crew at MilfordTV, the kids were able to film and edit even more new programs that were offered this month, including Sign Language and Gardening Club! As always, the kids did an amazing job filming and had a lot of fun! Again, thank you so much to everyone at MilfordTV for allowing the kids to explore such a cool career option!

For the final week of April, the kids went over their involvement in several upcoming events for the Youth Center and the Community! On Saturday, April 27th the Youth Council assisted in cleaning up the Upper Charles Trail for the fifth annual Milford Beautification Day! The kids got their own MYC Youth Council t-shirts, which they will be wearing to all future events!

For the month of May, the Youth Council is planning on attending several events in the community of Milford, as well as District Attorney Joseph D. Early's annual Student Wellness Conference, which will be held at Worcester State University this year! The kids are so excited to offer their assistance to the community for all of these upcoming events; including Milford Family Bridges night at Woodland Elementary on May 6th, Celebrate Milford on May 18th, and of course the MYC's annual "Dressed Up, Not Messed Up" Fashion Show on June 8th!
