Dear Family of St Francis,

Next week is the annual Diocesan Convention. It will be a Zoom gathering of all the clergy and congregational delegates of the diocese led by the Bishop and his staff inspired by the theme, “Servants of the Spirit.” All of the convention work of polity, diocesan budget review and presentations will take place on Saturday, November 14. The Diocesan Convention will end with a Eucharistic liturgy at 10am on Sunday the 15th, with Bishop John Harvey Taylor the Presider. Therefore, on November 15 we will not be offering our online10am pre-recorded service. See below for the details to access the service.

Given that Bishop John will be leading the entire diocese in worship on the 15th, the clergy and production staffs of all the individual congregations have an off Sunday. Therefore, I will be taking next week off for a retreat from Nov. 9 through the 13th. I am especially grateful that Susan and Peter Marshall, the music team and choir do not have to edit and produce a service for the 15th. They have been working for us “above and beyond”.

Since we will not be pre-recording Thursday, the 12th, I chose this time out to allow for some uplifting of my “mind, heart and strength” energies. I will begin the week meeting with a spiritual director on Zoom, listening together for the scriptural and spiritual themes that will inspire my week off alone with God.

Speaking of spiritually, each week we have the opportunity to gather in person for worship outdoors on Sunday morning at 9am. But see the announcement below about the pilot launch of livestreaming. Also, more outdoor radiant heaters have arrived for use for this service! Holy Communion only is at 11:15am to allow those who watch online at 10am enough time to get to church.

Please text - 310-995-6519 - or email Paula+ to register for the 9am outdoor worship or 11:15am communion only. We need your reservation for a CONTACT TRACING LIST.

Lastly, the lights are still on!  Everyone is working but you just don’t see most of us. So a big faith thank you to all who have sent in their pledges for 2021! Thank you for supporting our ministries and the staff of St Francis. May the stewardship theme, “faith-filled generosity”, help us face all the new pandemic challenges of worship and ministry, the challenges we face personally, and inspire us to be people of faith, love and beacons of hope.
Remember - when you attend, you must wear a face mask covering your mouth and nose, and be mindful of physical distancing. If you have a cough or do not feel well then take care of yourself and stay at home.
May God bless each of us as we most need!
With love and care,

Please text - 310-995-6519 - or email Paula+ to register for the 9am outdoor worship or 11:15am communion only in front of our church because we need your reservation for an accurate CONTACT TRACING LIST.
New! Outdoor Worship Livestreaming!
This Sunday, we will running a test of livestreaming the 9am worship. You can tune in via our usual Facebook page. This is a pilot, so please be patient! Technology doesn't always play nice! The full pre-recorded service will also be broadcast at 10am as usual.

Sunday November 15 we will not be livestreaming, and there will be no St. Francis pre-recorded service since Bishop Taylor is holding a service to address the entire Diocese, so please tune in via the diocesan Facebook page, Bishop Taylor's Facebook page, or the diocesan YouTube channel,
There will, however, still be outdoor worship at St. Francis at 9am as usual. PLUS - see our drive-in food drive and fellowship fun for that day!!

Sunday November 22 - if our test this Sunday goes well, we may consider moving our in-person worship to 10am, which will be livestreamed, and which will replace the pre-recorded services which we've been producing until now. Discussions are ongoing - more details to come.

Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.
