THIS WEEK ON (Y) CONNECT

Ep. 24 - Celebrating Exceptional People

With October being Disabilities Awareness Month, today on (Y) Connect we take the opportunity to introduce you to Victoria Inman, the proud mother of a remarkable daughter on the autism spectrum, and a friend of the Y. Victoria embarked on a mission to capture the essence of those who are differently abled in her captivating coffee table book called Spark Acceptance. The book features photos of over 50 individuals—some of whom are members of the Y. Joining Victoria is Beth Costello, Aquatics Director and the Adaptive Sports Coach for the Decatur Family Y.

These two extraordinary women share how they worked together to lift up the stories of truly exceptional people.

CENTURY OF IMPACT RECAP

On October 5, the Y hosted an event at the Leadership & Learning Center to celebrate “A Century of Impact” of early learning at the E.A. Ware Early Learning Center. Community leaders and friends of the Y were able to experience the depth of Y programs and the innovative ways we serve youth throughout our early learning centers.

TEEN TALK

The recent teen food packing session organized by the Cowart Family YMCA for underserved community members not only provided essential support but also offered a valuable educational opportunity for teenagers. It allowed them to gain an understanding of the needs within their community, and created a platform for teenagers to connect with friends and meet others their age who share an interest in making a positive impact on their community.
