Special Education Support for Missouri Military Families

Many people who care for children and youth with learning, developmental , and/or physical disabilities spend countless hours trying to navigate the special education process, attending meetings, and organizing papers. Military families experience similar struggles with the added stress of possibly having a partner deployed or away at training.

Military families also have to be prepared to learn and navigate the process all over again during their next move, which is often every few years. Moving from another state into to Missouri could also  mean a delay in obtaining services and additional time learning a new school and IEP team .

MPACT wants to make that process easier by providing resources and information, sitting by your side during an IEP meeting, or providing trainings where we can give you knowledge and tools to make the process more  manageable .

We can also help you find information about the resources available in your school district and connect you with your local installation's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) office, which works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive, coordinated, community support in areas such as housing, medical, educational and personal services to families with special needs.

Please visit www.missouriparentsact.org or call 1-800-743-7634 for support, resources, or information. Let us know if you are a military family when you contact us!

Military Family Resources
Young woman with pink and brown hair
Brook Fuller, Regional Coordinator for Central Missouri
I currently cover 20 counties in the central area of Missouri, and it is my job to help support and provide one-to-one assistance to families, provide free trainings to help educate parents and individuals in the community, and to network with other agencies, including c ollaboration  through MPACT's regional transition teams.

Being a former military spouse prior to my husband's medical discharge, and also growing up as an "Army brat," I have been exposed to and/or experienced many of the struggles military families face, including issues related  to disability  and special education.

Even before my children received their diagnoses, I volunteered for organizations that serve the military and veteran communities because  they have always been near to my heart. Now, with four children, two with disabilities, I have developed a passion for helping families going through similar situations like my family.

I am excited that I can support all families who have children with disabilities, while also combining my passion for serving military communities by providing support specific to military families.

I will be holding the following  trainings near military installations, and look forward to seeing you there!
