Milk Donations Across the Region
Brooklyn, Connecticut

On Wednesday June 3, Guida's Dairy sent 1,550 gallons of milk to Brooklyn Middle School to be distributed to families in need in Northeastern Connecticut. CT dairy farmer Jon Hermonot partnered with non-profit Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group (TEEG) to make this donation and distribution effort happen. TEEG volunteers and others brought their vehicles to this central location to pick up free milk and distribute it throughout their communities to school districts and food pantries. To cover costs of the milk, Jon Hermonot reached out to area businesses and Dairy Farmers of America who donated more than $7,000 combined . New England Dairy supported this initiative by creating a one-pager to solicit donations, social media graphics, a media pitch and press release, and our staff member Kiley attended the event to take photos, videos, and help load milk into distribution vehicles.
Cranston, Rhode Island

In honor of World Milk Day on June 1st, Stop & Shop partnered with New England Dairy to turn their Cranston store parking lot into a milk drive for local Rhode Island hunger relief agencies. Stop & Shop donated over 7,500 half gallons of milk in an effort to address the growing demand for nutritious food for those in need. Fifty-two Rhode Island food pantries and other non-profit agencies brought their vehicles to the central location to pick up milk, which they will distribute to their local communities and clients.
New England Dairy Monitors Activist Map

Animal activist group Direct Action Everywhere recently launched Project Counterglow, an interactive map that shows the specific locations of dairy farms and plants. Project Counterglow encourages activists to locate farms and facilities in their areas and create a “paper trail” of photos and videos documenting animal cruelty and health violations.

Farmers can take the following steps to keep their farms safe:
  • Do not share this information in public groups. If you share in private groups, share screenshots to avoid driving more traffic to the website.
  • Ask your employees to remain vigilant and to report anything unusual, especially people they don't recognize on the farm.
  • If someone trespasses onto your farm, alert law enforcement officials immediately. Do not attempt to engage.
  • Review hiring and training procedures to ensure that employees are knowledgeable of important farm protocols and procedures.
  • Inform local law enforcement about Project Counterglow and ask what assistance they can provide.

DMI and New England Dairy are closely monitoring developments and will share important updates as information becomes available. Contact Annalise Kieley with questions.
