  Service & Celebrations!

It was an abbreviated week that included a holiday and a weather delay.. The days we were here together, were jam-packed! Some of the highlights from the week include a visit by our 6th Year Students to the NH Food Bank; more scientific exploration by our Lower Elementary Students; and ongoing work by our Kinder students as part of the All-School European Continent Student. That study  will culminate in student presentations next Thursday which you are invited to attend.  Please click here to learn more about the celebration event.

An important part of the Montessori philosophy is helping children discover how they can make the world a better place. The  Montessori S ervice Learning Curriculum is an important component of the 6th Year experience at Mill Falls. The students' s ervice work provides opportunities for hard work, cultural awareness, connection to community and a growing sense of empathy.

Earlier in the year, the current 6th Year Students discussed projects they wanted to take on as part of their Service Learning Program. Led by Ms. Laura B, the students identified the Food Bank as a service partner, and took their first trip over there to share their strength with the warehouse team. Ms. Laura B. and  students walked over to the Food Bank, took a brief tour of the facility, and then got to work  packaging potatoes into bags which will be handed out over the weekend to food-insecure families. 6th Year Student, Marissa, shared that "It felt great to help people, especially knowing that families who need food will be in on Saturday to pick up the food we sorted." This was just one of the many activities and projects the Students will work on between now and June.

And after a great week of work, our Upper Elementary Students are getting ready to put their dancing shoes on and have some fun together here, at school, tonight at the first Upper Elementary Dance of the school year. Special thanks to Ms. Colleen for leading the Student Dance Committee in the planning and execution of tonight's event and to DJ Ron for once again spinning the tunes! Thanks, too, to Ms. Lauren, Ms. Laura B & Ms. Christine for helping to staff tonight's dance, and to tonight's parent-volunteers and those who donated treats to help make the event a great success!  The doors open at 6pm for pizza, music and fun!

Next Friday will be  Ms. Roxanne's final day at Mill Falls. We are super sad to see her go, but wish her every good thing as she sets off on a new adventure as a billing specialist Taking Roxanne's place will be our own Ms. Jen who has been working as a paraprofessional   with us since 2017. Jen will call upon her previous work at Catholic Medical Center's physician's practices where she was the office assistant, as well as her work in the hospitality industry. While Jen is super sad to leave the Acadia Classroom and will miss the kiddos a ton, she will be just across the hall at the front desk! Ms. Melissa will be filling in for Jen in Acadia until we find a permanent replacement, and will then return to covering the Front Desk a few times a week, and subbing for us as needed. Sending a HUGE thank you to these three women who bring so much to our staff and to the lives of our kiddos every day!
Please Join Us! European Continent Study Celebration

ContinentStudyOn Thursday, January 31st, we invite you to join us during the culminating celebration of our All-School European Continent Study.

9-9:45am: Kinder & Lower Elementary
Each classroom has selected a European country to study. The countries that they chose to study are Germany, Italy, Spain, and Greece. Ms. Kristin and Ms. Kayla in the Kinder classroom have been  teaching the children about Germany's food, flag, animals, money, famous buildings (including the castle found in the Sleeping Beauty cartoon movie), language, capital, and clothing. Our Upper Elementary classrooms will be presenting small student projects related to fundamental human needs.

9:45-9:55am: European Music and Dance
Led by our Music Teacher, Ms. Cassie, and performed by our Lower Elementary Students

10-11am: Upper Elementary
Upper Elementary Students have been studying the ancient civilizations that developed into modern-day Europe. In a more concentrated study, students have been focused on Ancient Greece. Visitors will see student reports and accompanying visual models of items from the ancient civilizations. The classes will also share some food, and art work, as well as a spirited event celebrating Ancient Greece.

We look forward to seeing you...Opa!!
