2018 Has Come in with a Roar!

Happy 2018 Everyone!  We hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Just when we were set to get into the New Year swing of things this week, Mother Nature threw us a curve ball! Looking forward to getting back to work in earnest on Monday, but did want to send out this VERY brief newsletter today.

Thanks for continuing to keep your eyes on WMUR for alerts about any future closings or delays . We used the ALMA system last night since we knew it  would  not be snowing this morning, and some people might not have thought to consult WMUR. However, please note, we will ONLY use ALMA when there are unusual situations like that (no visual cue), otherwise, please use WMUR as your go-to! As soon as the closing or delay is confirmed, we post there (even when we use ALMA).

On January 2nd, MFCS staff traveled to River Valley, a public Montessori school in Massachusetts, for a regional conference on our Professional Development Day organized around building and sustaining our public Montessori school communities. Laura and Meryl work closely with the River Valley leadership to put together the event, which featured both a keynote speaker from the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector (NCMPS), as well as a series of round-table discussions led by staff from Mill Falls and River Valley. It was an inspiring gathering and provided a great opportunity for staff from 4 public Montessori schools in the region to share ideas and resources.

A few events took place on Wednesday at school to make up for our missed day on December 22nd. Our Lower Elementary Students wore PJ's to school and enjoyed watching Polar Express together. Our Upper Elementary Students shared their family tree and tradition projects (see some pix below).

We are really looking forward to all that comes next in this New Year. Some exciting new projects, after school clubs, and field trips! Stay tuned for details...

And this week we opened our 2018 Lottery Enrollment Period. This is our 7th Lottery! Please see below for more information and ways you can help us welcome potential new families to the Mill Falls Family!

Stay warm and safe as we recover from this crazy storm. See you Monday!

The Family Traditions Project completed by our Upper Elementary Students was shared on Wednesday. Above, the white board in the Zion Room noted the many cultures and countries represented in that classroom. See and learn more  about  the Project below.

What's needed?

coffee, tea, sugar/sweeteners, milk and treats such as banana bread, small cookies, and fruit.
Two Parent Ambassadors:  to attend the event and help with set up and clean up.

If you can help, please send an email to Meryl . If you will be bringing items in, we will need those by Tuesday at 3pm if not earlier that day.

2: Share Information about the 2018 Lottery Enrollment with family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors by word of mouth, your Facebook page, and sharing the link below. All information about our Lottery is available on line, including common FAQ's.
M ontessori Moments...
In December, as part of the Cultural Curriculum, our Upper Elementary Students undertook an engaging Family Tradition Project to learn more about their own families and the diversity of our MFCS student body.

Working mostly at home, the students gathered information through interviews with family members which they then used to write a summary of their own family's history and traditions. Each student also created a family tree - examples of which are shown below.

They shared their work first within their classroom, then the Upper Elementary Students traveled classroom to classroom to view the projects completed by all Upper Elementary Students.

See You on Monday!
