  So Much Cooking!

Happy November! We kicked the month off with a great Upper Elementary field trip to The Derryfield School for a morning performance  by their Middle School Students of the musical, Bye, Bye Birdie. Special thanks to the crew at Derryfield for hosting us and providing transportation to and from the performance! And today, we once again welcomed families and friends to the Glacier and Everglade Rooms for Read In

As part of the fall festivities, this week members of our Upper Elementary Program mentored our Kinder students in the annual Pumpkin Study.
This project links our youngest learners with older students to practice skills in writing, math and science. The children work in small groups, led by the big kids to generate a list of descriptive words for the pumpkins, measure and weigh them, and then predict how many seeds are held inside. It was a two day project.

As a delightful side note...most of this year's big-kid mentors had themselves once been part of the Pumpkin Study when they were in kindergarten here; they were mentored by students who have now graduated. See more images of this collaborative project below.

We shall walk together on the path of life,
for all things are part of the universe,
and are connected together to form one whole unity.

This week, all members of our Lower Elementary Program participated in the First Great Lesson in the Montessori Cultural Curriculum. This lesson explores the earth's beginnings and that of human kind. Led by narrator Ms. Shannon and presenters Ms. Tana and Ms. Anya, the children observed experiments which simulate the scientific origin of the Earth.  For an amazing read about the power of this and other Great Lessons, please click here.
