November...Already!

It's been a fun-filled week here with lots of great work accomplished and a wonderful field trip for our Upper Elementary students who went to the Derryfield School to see a student production of Annie. Special thank you to our friends at Derryfield for providing this wonderful opportunity AND transportation to and from!

Our much anticipated Night of Community is fast approaching.  Please be sure to buy your tickets. If you can't make it, please consider purchasing a discounted teacher ticket. We have locked in some AMAZING Auction items, live musical entertainment and a delicious menu!

A reminder that our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, November 17th. Please see below for important information about the day.

As you consider your plans for the month, please be reminded that we have NO SCHOOL on the following days:
November 11th: Veterans Day
November 17th: Parent Teacher Conferences
(no school for students)
November 23-25: Thanksgiving Holiday

Please note we DO have school on Election Day, November 8th, 2016 because we are not a voting/polling site.
Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences & Progress Reports
ParentTeacherConfParent Teacher Conference Day - Thursday, November 17th
Please note there is NO SCHOOL on the 17th.  Invitations to sign up for a time-slot have been sent out to all families via email from the classroom teachers.
We will have childcare available ONLY during your conference time $5 per child for the 20 minute conference slot (children must be school aged - 5 years or older).

It will be a long and intense day for our teaching staff. Our Hospitality Committee has put together a wonderful plan for a Staff Lunch. Please click here to view the SignUp if you'd like to share a treat!

** NEW Progress Reports **
Ms. Laura W. and the teaching team are putting the finishing touches on our newly formatted Progress Reports. These Reports, which will be shared with you via ALMA (our new student information system) on Thursday, November 10th. In the new-styled reports you will see a clear listing of the areas of the curriculum and your child's progression through it. The new format will provide you with a view that reflects our Montessori 3-year cycle for students in our Lower and Upper Elementary Programs. Looking forward to sharing those with our Mill Falls Community.

And have you heard about the bike raffle?
Yes! You or someone you know can ride off into the sunset on the beautiful wheels pictured here. But you gotta be in it to win it! Stop in to purchase your raffle ticket for $25, or send payment in with your child and join in the fun...

All in support of Mill Falls!

We will draw the winning ticket on November 18 at the Night of Community (you do not have to be present to win)!
We Have a Winner!

Thanks to all those who are participating in our Family & Friends Monthly Giving Program. As part of that program, the names of program participants are drawn monthly in a small gift raffle. The winner of this month's raffle prize is the Giovagnoli Family! Thank you Terri & Dave! The prize this month is a gift certificate to Shorty's.

Inquire with your employer today to find out if they will match your donations. If you have any questions, please send Meryl an email. Thank you!!

Give & Gets, aka Effort-Free Giving
A reminder that Mill Falls is enrolled in a number of programs which are designed to provide small financial donations from places many of us shop regularly. These 'Give & Get' opportunities are mapped out on our website... click here to find out more!

From the Art Department

A message from Ms. Carla:
We are always looking for interesting recycled materials for art. Some items we could use are:
  • News papers
  • Egg cartons (paper or plastic)
  • Styrofoam trays
  • Paper towel/toilet paper rolls
  • Plastic bags (to take home work)

Thanks!

Ski Club

This year, our Ski Club has a new organizer - MFCS Mom, Anastasia Frew. A flyer is going home today with our Lower and Upper Elementary Students.  Please click here to view the flyer.

We have highlighted the following important information about the 2017 Ski Club.

IMPORTANT SKI CLUB INFO:
Registration: November 1 st  thru Dec 15 th
Parents register directly on the McIntyre website.
We must have 15 children signed up for the program order for McIntyre to offer this to MFCS.

Lesson Sessions: E very Tuesday for 5 weeks beginning Jan 3rd, 4pm - 6pm.

Keep Anastasia Informed:
Once you have registered please send an email to Anastasia at [email protected], so she can track Club participants.

One-way busing from MFCS to McIntyre will be provided at a cost of $31 for the season and is required of all children participating in the 4pm lesson. The cost will go  down depending on the number of children participating.

Kindergarteners can participate
in lessons on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30, however parents will be responsible for transportation!  If your kinder is close to being 6 and has skied before they are welcome to register for the Mighty Mac's at 4pm. McIntyre has a no refund policy if the child fizzles out after an hour or decides they don't like the program!  **Kinder parents of each participating child will be required to be there for the whole session each week.**

Parent chaperones are key to the success of this program. Each week, we require one parent here at school to get the kids ready. A parent must also ride the bus with the children. At the mountain, we require 2-3 chaperones - some in the lodge and some on the mountain. Chaperones can ski for free during the lessons as they monitor the children on the mountain.

See you on the slopes!
Keyboarding Without Tears

This year our students are using Keyboarding Without Tears to learn keyboarding skills, computer literacy and digital citizenship.

Students can now use the program at home.  To access the program, you will need a computer (laptop or desktop) or iPad/tablet with internet access.

A few weeks back, each family of our 1st - 6th graders, was sent an email noting the link to the program and the Secret Code required for your student to log in.

Our students will have the most success learning to type, if they also take some time to practice at home. Please log in via the email sent previously, or if you have questions, please contact your child's teacher for log-in information!
