100 Days & Kind Hearts!
|
|
We kicked off this week with a wonderful
celebration of our
100th Day of School.
Teachers dressed up as 100-year-old women and we gathered together for an All-School Meeting to begin the day. Ms. Laura W. provided the annual reading of 100th Day Worries - an engaging children's book about worries, creativity and celebration. Throughout the day, our students and staff worked together on challenges and crafts related to 100. Fun was had by all!
Mother
Nature
threw us a little curve ball mid-week and we hope our MFCS Families enjoyed the snow day! After the storm cleared, our staff met up for lunch and a powerful Professional Development Workshop led by Elise Wulff from Aspire/Mass General Hospital for Children. Wulff shared her extensive knowledge about
brain-based mechanisms that influence social skill building. Through Wulff's small group work, our staff explored effective teaching practices and in-depth strategies for creating strong classroom communities built on effective communication and collaboration.
And when we welcomed back the students on Thursday, everyone was wearing their hearts on their sleeves... because it was
Valentines Day
!
Enjoy some images below as the children shared messages of friendship and kindness with one another throughout the day.
To close out the week, we held our February All-School Meeting (rescheduled from Wednesday). Members of our 6th Year Class shared information about their recent trip to the NH Food Bank to sort potatoes, which was related to their Service Learning work. The Students talked about what they learned about food insecurity in NH and told their schoolmates that they look forward to returning to do more service! After that, Students from the Zion Room shared some recent writing assignments linked to mysterious pictures used as writing prompts. Special thanks to all of our presenters!

We also need some help welcoming families interested in learning more about our school and entering in the

As part of our
Service Learning Curriculum, our
6th Year Students continued their partnership with the NH Food Bank through the
organization
of a recent food drive.
After contacting the NH Food Bank to determine the kind of service project that would benefit the Food Bank at this time, our students organized, advertised and coordinated their Food Drive.
With support from families and friends of Mill Falls, 188 pounds of food donations were collected! These donated items were then shelved by staff and volunteers at the NH Food Bank in preparation for distribution to food insecure families in our state. Following the close of food drive, Laura B. led the students in a reflection about the projects challenges and success. Service learning curriculum is characterized by meaningful service projects related to academic content and allotted time for student reflection. The 6th Year Students will continue their Service Learning Program during the rest of the school year.
