Welcome Back!
It's been a great first week at Mill Falls...the start of our 5th year as NH's first public Montessori! We welcomed back many old friends and met some new ones. Thanks again to all who joined us at last week's popsicle party.

Earlier this week, we sent home a flyer with information about what's cooking at Mill Falls this month. If that didn't find its way to you (those lunch boxes can get messy), please

Below you will see a few upcoming events highlighted for you including our first 5K/Fun Run & Walk and related Running Club, our Annual Open House, and several other fun events.

Please also note the New Traffic Pattern for Drop Off & Pick Up noted below. That change will take effect Monday morning!

Related to Pick Up...Please be sure to put your MFCS Car Tags in your car so that our staff can identify your car at dismissal!

We look forward to many opportunities to come together as a community this year, to strengthen our connections to each other, and to our school's mission and goals.

Special thanks to Jennifer at Spectrum Printing for the donation of our Upper Elementary student agendas!

Here's a fantastic 2016/17 School Year full of adventures, meaningful challenges and scores of successes!

September 14th: Early Release Day
Our first monthly Early Release Day will be on September 14th. All-school dismissal is at 11:15am.

Any child already enrolled in our Kinder or AfterCare Programs will be automatically enrolled in the Early Release Child Care Program (if your child will not be in AfterCare on the Early Release Day, please notify Susanne ASAP so we can give your spot to another family).

If you are in need of Drop In Kinder or AfterCare on the 14th, please be in touch with Susanne at [email protected]. Space is very limited for Early Release Drop In and will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
Getting Organized & Getting to Work
Time was spent this week getting organized and familiarized with our various classroom systems. We also spent time getting to know one another. Name games, self-portraits and lending helping hands were seen throughout our school this week. Take a peek:

Montessori Great Lesson Shared...
This morning, included a very special Montessori moment here at school. Our Lower Elementary Teaching Team shared the first of 7 Great Montessori Lessons with their students. Given the mood lighting, this beautiful and unique presentation was hard to capture visually (so forgive the dark photos below).

Quietly, the students filed into the Denali Room which had been prepared as a small theater with visuals set up on a long blue tarp. The lights were dimmed and soft music played as the children took their seats.

In the front of the room sat Ms. Celia, Ms. Anya and Ms. Collette. Celia shared the story about the scientific beginnings of our planet earth, stopping to celebrate the earth as we know it today before describing the steps which began to unfold billions of years ago to create our planet.

The children sat, enthralled, as Anya and Collette used simple visuals to represent the steps in time - a balloon filled with glitter began the story and toward the end, a mini volcano symbolized the real-life eruptions that created clouds of gases as the lava spilled over and over again. Slowly, Celia explained, the earth grew to its present size.

Like so much in the Montessori approach, this lesson touched many of the children's senses - touch (Anya worked with the water, solids, magic magnets); sight (the use of flashlights to illuminate the small visual story telling elements) and sound (beautiful soothing music along side Celia's careful delivery of the story).

Once complete, the children were able to ask questions about what they had seen. Some shared their enthusiasm for stories they new of early landforms and those who lived on it. Others asked magical questions about how the lava could float if it was in water.

This story, and the way it was shared on our 4th day of school, marks the first in a series of lessons which our Montessori students learn as they move through our program levels. Please join us in thanking Celia, Collette and Anya for their hard work and fabulous effort!
