Design work continues on the Mill Street Reconstruction Project, and we are writing to share important updates.
We gathered feedback from Mill Street property owners and tenants regarding which side of the street they would prefer vehicle parking. The response was overwhelming for parking to remain on the west side of the street. After receiving this feedback, analyzing the utility impacts, assessing tree health, traffic calming options, and pedestrian crossing needs, cross-sections were developed for the corridor.
Elements in the cross-sections include the following:
- A full reconstruction of the roadway from S.’A’ Street to Centennial Boulevard.
- Parking on the west side of the street.
- A protected bicycle facilities on both sides of the street from Main Street to ‘E’ Street, bicycle lanes on both sides of the street from ‘E’ Street to Centennial Boulevard.
- Raised pedestrian crossings and speed humps spaced roughly between 250’-400’ throughout the corridor.
- Bulb-outs at various intersections.
- Sidewalk, pedestrian ramp, and driveway approach replacements.
- Installation of roughly 100 trees (depending on lighting and utilities) after removing between 24 and 50 trees depending on the health of the existing trees.
- Decorative street lighting within the Downtown Refinement Plan boundaries.
- Wastewater line replacement from Main Street to just north of ‘G’ Street and wastewater line lateral improvements
- Stormwater quality improvements.
