Design work continues on the Mill Street Reconstruction Project and there are important updates we have included in this email.
Survey and geotechnical crews have completed their field work to support the design of the project. Field crews have found property boundaries, collected topographic information, verified the locations of existing utilities, and several borings have been collected to assess the condition of the soil underneath the roadway. Field crews may be onsite again to collect additional information as needed.
The project team has also completed a study of on-street parking utilization on Mill Street between S. ‘A’ Street and Centennial Boulevard. The data from the study shows that the existing supply of on-street parking generally exceeds the demand throughout the day, on both weekdays and weekends.
To provide the needed width to accommodate the required new bicycle facilities, the project design will need to remove on-street parking from one side of Mill Street. Please reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, comments, or if you would like to discuss them in person. My contact information is kkrueger@springfield-or.gov or 541.726.4584.
Our next step will include preparing a preliminary design concept which will include pedestrian, bicycle, and street lighting improvements, stormwater treatment, replacement of the wastewater line, and lining of the lateral pipes. The concept will develop details for the construction work anticipated to begin in 2024.
Staff will provide updates regarding the reconstruction project on the project webpage. We also send out electronic updates through email like this one. If this message was forwarded to you, click the button below to be added to the E-Update list.
