Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of May 15 - 19, 2017

Here is the latest news on the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project: 

What happened last week: 
The contractor continued to install light poles in the center island medians between Locust Avenue and Reed Street and along the south side of Miller Avenue. Work crews continued to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto, from the 2AM Club and proceeding along outbound Miller Avenue. The contractor continued to make improvements in the Marsh section of the project between Camino Alto and Almonte Boulevard, specifically in front of the Pickleweed and Mill Creek Meadows complexes. Work crews began doing demolition and grading in advance of the installation of a new sidewalk and a bike lane on Miller Avenue at Sunnyside Avenue downtown in front of the small shopping center that contains Boo Koo and True Botanicals.

What is happening this week:
Work crews continue to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto, from the 2AM Club and proceeding along outbound Miller Avenue. Work crews continue to install the bus shelter on the south side of Miller Avenue. The contractor continues to install the Marsh Bridge. The contractor is placing new soil material for grading and new concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalk for the new sidewalk and bike lane on Miller Avenue at Sunnyside Avenue downtown in front of the small shopping center that contains Boo Koo and True Botanicals.

What to expect in the next few weeks:
Work crews will continue to install irrigation systems and plant top soil in the center island medians. The contractor will continue to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto, from the 2AM Club and proceeding along outbound Miller Avenue. Work crews will remove the underground concrete structures in preparation for paving in the Main Street section of the project between Willow Street and Reed Street/Valley Circle. The contractor will begin working on the new sidewalk at Valley Circle and Reed Street.

NOTE: All forecasted work is contingent on weather. Periods of heavy rain prevent work from occurring and the scheduled work is pushed back accordingly.

Road Closure and Detour - Inbound Miller Ave Near Downtown

Please be advised that the Miller Avenue Streetscape contractor has tentatively scheduled a road closure on inbound Miller Avenue from Millwood St. to Sunnyside Avenue the week of May 21st from 7:00 am to 12:00 am. A detour will be in place - please see the map.

The contractor will be pouring concrete for sidewalks, curbs and driveways. In order to be in the correct position, the concrete truck will be positioned in both lanes for short (30 minute) periods of time. Work is tentatively scheduled for  Monday, May 22 and Tuesday May 23.

Please drive slowly through the construction zones, obey all signs and flaggers, and allow extra time before your trip.

  • Add time to your trip and plan ahead.Check www.mvtraffic.org before your trip.
  • Drive slowly through the construction zone.
  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.
  • Please don't drive on the sidewalks.
