Miller Congratulates Jones, Thanks His Supporters

‘I don't know what God's plan is for my future or how I might be of service to Him and my fellow man, but I rely upon Him’

Republican candidate for lieutenant governor Butch Miller today conceded the race to his friend Burt Jones, thanked those who supported his campaign and vowed to work for Republican victory in November.

On June 29, 2021, I officially kicked off my campaign for Lt. Governor of the great State of Georgia. In the past 11 months, Teresa and I have traveled throughout every corner of the state, hamlet to hamlet, city to city. We have listened to the concerns and issues of thousands of individuals and families. Our lives have been enriched by the process. Teresa and I have made new friendships that will last a lifetime, and we have renewed and reinforced friendships from years ago. I have worked hard throughout the entirety of the campaign and worked hard these past 12 years in the state Senate. I will be forever grateful for the love and encouragement we have received. 

Obviously, I hoped for a different outcome in the election but the people have spoken, and the votes have now been counted. EARLIER TODAY, I SPOKE WITH AND congratulated the victor, Burt Jones, and wish him well. I look forward to supporting Burt in the upcoming general election and I am fully committed to his success, the success of the Republican Party, and the success of the State of Georgia. I also salute others in the Republican primary, Ms. Seaver and Mr. McGregor. 

I have a long list of “Thank you's,” a list too long to name, but at the top of that list is my beautiful wife Teresa and my family. You allowed me to chase a dream. Thank you to my campaign team. You were “all in, all the time.” Thank you to my friends and supporters. Many of you contributed your time, talents and resources. You leveraged your reputations and friendships on my behalf. I am truly humbled. I look forward to spending time with my family and our two newborn grandsons. I look forward to continuing to serve God and my fellow man. I rely upon Him as in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you ... plans to give you hope and a future." It is all in His hands. 

Many of you know I am a fan of Teddy Roosevelt, one of my favorite presidents. I am particularly fond of his speech "Citizenship in a Republic." A passage from those remarks is commonly known as "The man in the Arena." There is another passage of Roosevelt's I would like to share: “It is dreadful misfortune for a man to feel that his whole livelihood and happiness depends on staying in office. Such a feeling presents him from being of real service to the people.” 

I love our state and I believe in the American Project. I concede this race today not asking for a recount, despite how close we came to a runoff. I’m proud to have taken part in passing our election integrity law last year, and I believe it’s now proven to work. For the sake of our state, I call on all who are advancing to the general election to FIGHT ALL YOU CAN ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL, BUT ONCE THE VOTES ARE CAST AND COUNTED to accept the election results.
