Pledge a Mitzvah
A Word from the Rabbi
Rabbi Paltiel

As of now, we are still praying for the safe return of the three Israeli teens who were kidnapped by terrorists last week. Our prayers are with Yaakov Naftali Ben Rachel Devorah, Gilad Michael ben Bat Galim, and Eyal ben Iris Teshura.

Please take a moment today before Shabbat to say a prayer on their behalf click here for Psalm 20.

The parents of the kidnapped boys have requested that we urge every Jewish woman to light the Shabbat candles, as their personal plea, in the merit of gaining the freedom of their children. Click here for this story.

Women & Girls the power of the Shabbat candles is well known. Few prayers in Judaism have the power of prayers said, with heartfelt emotion and tears during the lighting of the candles. Please make sure to light the candles today at 8:11 pm, even if you don't do it every Friday. Do it especially today for this purpose.

May we rejoice very quickly with their return to our people!

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Shalom M Paltiel

P.S. Do you know about the very special SOUL ENCOUNTERS trip our community is taking on Sunday, June 29th? Be a part of this very powerful and enjoyable trip/event. How often do we have the chance of listening to Rabbi Steinzaltz, Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Krinsky the Rebbe's personal assistant, while enjoying a visit to the ohel?! Plus a first class buffet dinner with like-minded Jews form other Chabads, and comfortable transportation aboard a luxury coach bus. Don't miss this opportunity for all of that good stuff, while paying tribute to the Rebbe, giving him the honor and tribute he so deserves on his 20th yahrzeit, for the monumental contribution to Judaism that he's made worldwide, including the impact he's had on each of our own personal lives as Jews. Let's do it.

The Rebbe
Jewish Action

An Unparalleled Leader
By: Jonathan Sacks

In honor of the Lubavitcher Rebbe's 20th yahrtzeit this summer, Jewish Action asked a number of contributors to reflect on the Rebbe's legacy and lasting impact on Jewish life.

There have been many great Jewish leaders in history. Some left a permanent mark on the Jewish mind by their contributions to Torah and the poetry and prose of the Jewish soul. Some created new communities, others revived flagging ones; some shaped the entire tenor of a region. But it would be hard to name an individual who, in his lifetime, transformed virtually every Jewish community in the world as well as created communities in places where none existed before. That is a measure of the achievement of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. He was not just a great leader-he was a unique one...

Underrated Earth

Souls wait up in heaven for thousands of years, longing for their moment upon this earth to do another soul a favor.

Angels burn with jealousy each time a human being turns himself around and creates beauty in this world.

Heaven is nice, but on the best things, earth has exclusive rights.

The Parshah In A Nutshell
Parshat KorachKorach incites a mutiny challenging Moses' leadership and the granting of the kehunah ( priesthood) to Aaron. He is accompanied by Moses' inveterate foes, Dathan and Abiram. Joining them are 250 distinguished members of the community, who offer the sacrosanct ketoret (incense) to prove their worthiness for the priesthood. The earth opens up and swallows the mutineers, and a fire consumes the ketoret-offerers.

A subsequent plague is stopped by Aaron's offering of ketoret. Aaron's staff miraculously blossoms and brings forth almonds, to prove that his designation as high priest is divinely ordained.

G‑d commands that a terumah ("uplifting") from each crop of grain, wine and oil, as well as all firstborn sheep and cattle, and other specified gifts, be given to the kohanim (priests).
