Mills College Now Part of Alameda Promise Program

The "Alameda Promise" program, through which Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) graduates are eligible for a free year of tuition at College of Alameda (COA), has now expanded to include scholarship opportunities at Mills College, a nationally renowned independent liberal arts college for women.

Encinal Teacher Leads SFMOMA Workshop

Kudos to Paul Igaz, a Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School, who was selected to teach a workshop at SFMOMA's Teacher Institute last weekend!

For the past two years, Igaz, who teaches Digital Film at EJSHS, has participated in professional development workshops designed to help teachers learn to incorporate art into their curriculum.  He was invited to conduct a workshop last Saturday (January 26) for educators who attended the museum's "Teaching with SFMOMA's Collection" training. Igaz taught a workshop entitled "Three-Shot Cinema: Introducing the Grammar of Motion Pictures."

"Museums are just such a groovy premise in general; big ol' buildings to showcase the weirdest stuff people have made in pursuit of their dreams and passions," Igaz says. "I love incorporating art into my educational practice, and the professional development opportunities at SFMOMA have been mind-opening and career-defining."

Special thank you to Nancy Read, a CTE teacher at Alameda High School, who attended Igaz's workshop and took this photo.
