SPRING GREETINGS FROM LEADERSHIP

As we navigate the evolving landscape of 2025, Millstone Fund remains steadfast in its place-based mission within our pillars of health, education and the arts. We recognize the growing funding pressures along with the persistent crisis we face in the mental and behavioral health space. We are inspired and motivated by the incredible passion of our partners to heal and enrich our community of Greater Cincinnati. Our focus remains to foster resilience and drive meaningful change through strategic investments and partnerships.

The response to our open-call grant mechanism has surged in the past six months, reflecting the growing needs. While we will continue to pursue new partnerships, we will also continue a shift to deepening select existing partnerships that have strong potential to expand opportunity, increase access and drive innovation across our focus areas. A key area of focus continues to be the continuum of care for mental, behavioral and developmental health. We are also committed to creating additional opportunities to advance the creative ideas of our partners and to sharing our own expertise whenever it may be feasible, helpful and appropriate.

As we move forward to the second half of 2025, we are committed to remaining accessible, responsive and engaged to our current partners. Our goal is to ensure that our grants continue to support organizations and projects that align with our mission and values. This work would not be possible without the dedication and passion of our partners, community leaders and supporters. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant community for all.

Sincerely,

The Millstone Fund Board of Directors

Did You Know?

  • Millstone Fund values the important roles of both innovation and collaboration in the success of our community. Innovation and collaboration play a vital role in driving the success of nonprofits working to address complex challenges in our community. Innovation seed funding, one of the grant types permitted by Millstone Fund, facilitates the exploration of new approaches within community organizations that can improve access to resources, enhance health outcomes and promote wellness in our community. However, innovation alone is not enough. Collaboration with other nonprofits, government agencies, and community stakeholders is crucial to scaling solutions, sharing knowledge and leveraging diverse expertise. By working together, nonprofits can align strategies and ensure that innovative solutions are effectively implemented.

  • Millstone Fund supported an innovative and collaborative project by investing $100,000 in the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky and their on-site Healthcare Clinic project to enhance their partnership with, among others, University of Kentucky and NKU's Nurse Advocacy Center for the Underserved. Their Healthcare Clinic, opened in 2022, serves both immediate healthcare needs of individuals in the shelter, diverting unnecessary emergency department visits, and provides preventive healthcare supports like vaccinations and well-checks. These services represent critical needs that were previously unmet for people experiencing homelessness. This collaboration advances the well-being of some of our most vulnerable neighbors while simultaneously supporting the education of the next generation of healthcare professionals. The creative partnership highlights the benefit of innovative thinking and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Goals & Priorities

Millstone Fund strives to secure a better future for Greater Cincinnati within the pillars of health, education and the arts. We believe these areas are foundational to a healthy and vibrant community: the physical and mental health of people, the reach and quality of education and the beauty and diversity of creative expression. An important theme across each pillar is a commitment to equity by addressing disparities in opportunities and outcomes in our community.
