Dear Business Representative,
Please be aware of an upcoming road closure that may affect your daily commutes through Milpitas starting Monday, July 12th at 7am with an expected end date of Friday, July 16 at 5pm. A section of Great Mall Parkway, between South Main Street and McCandless Drive, will be closed in both directions 24-hours during this time, which you can see in more detail on the map below. The Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) will be improving their rail crossing that crosses Great Mall Parkway, requiring the removal and replacement of the steel track rails, concrete rail panels, and asphalt pavement conformation along Great Mall Parkway. The work is required to address electrical shorts occurring on UPRR’s signal system from ground water and moisture intrusion. The system shorts activate the crossing signals and roadway gates when no trains are present resulting in stoppage and delay of roadway traffic.
A detour around the road closure is proposed along South Main Street and McCandless Drive as shown on the notice of construction below.
Electronic message boards to inform drivers of the pending road closure and detour will be staged along Great Mall Parking approximately 2 weeks before the start of work on July 12. If you have any questions, please contact the City of Milpitas, Associate Engineer Fanny Yu and Senior Inspector Casey Crary, as listed below.
