Milton Parks and Activities Guide showcases parks, programs, and camps for summer |

MILTON, Ga. - The Milton’s Parks and Recreation Department took a big step toward summer on Tuesday with the opening of camp registrations and launch of a new Parks and Activities Guide showcasing its offerings.
The City has made a priority of making the sign-up process for activities more consistent, more clear, and more user-friendly. That’s why staff have pushed to have one date when registrations open rather than every single program having a different date. While there are a few exceptions, for the most part that happened today – February 15 – for this coming summer’s camps, seasons and sessions. The plan is for similar synergy later this year when there should be a common sign-up start-date for the 2022-2023 school year’s activities.
The Department also wanted to give people a handy, easy-to-read, visually compelling tool where they could find information on all the available, City-affiliated programs and facilities in one place. The Parks and Activities Guide – Milton’s first in recent memory – serves that important purpose, featuring useful information on sports, arts opportunities, camps. People will also learn where in Milton they can hike, rent out City spaces, and generally enjoy the outdoors.

“By making things clearer and simpler, we hope even more people will know about – and take full advantage of – what Milton has to offer,” said Parks and Recreation Director Tom McKlveen.
Except for Camp Joyful Soles (a summer-long camp for those age 13-22 with developmental disabilities), the City of Milton’s programs are run by program partners. These providers meet the City’s standards, use City facilities, and offer residents discounted rates (compared to those paid by non-residents). Plus, recent agreements with the City of Alpharetta mean that Milton residents can also play lower rates to play softball and be part of Camp Happy Hearts. (Alpharetta residents similarly now pay lower resident rates to play with Milton’s girls and boys lacrosse and enroll in Camp Joyful Soles.)

The City provides registration links via its website at www.cityofmiltonga.us/registration. Several of the programs, however, take sign-ups on their own platforms. If you have questions about registering and/or don’t see the option on these websites, please contact the relevant program provider first for assistance.
Milton has significantly expanded its Parks and Recreation offerings in recent years. Several adult and arts activities have been added, while traditional athletic programs have seen strong participation. And the upcoming opening of a new community and recreation center inside the former Milton Country Club’s almost fully renovated clubhouse, as well as the turfing of the two full-sized athletic fields at the Cox Road athletic complex, should allow even more opportunities for providers and participants alike.
The Milton Parks and Activities Guide aims to give people a fuller understanding of what they can do (rather than more options leading to more confusion). The City plans to publish two such publications – right now, in an online format only – annually. The next edition (coming in late spring) will provide information on options for activities that run from August into the fall and beyond.
“This all is the continuation of the City’s efforts to streamline our processes, communicate effectively, and serve our citizens,” McKlveen said. “We’re excited for this summer – and every season to follow.”
