Open Doors... Open Hearts...

An Open House!

More than 300 people attended an Open House held on Valentine's Day.  Guests had the opportunity to tour our new headquarters and to hear both Mayor Tom Barrett and Interim County Executive Marvin Pratt proclaim February 14th as "Community Advocates Day" in Milwaukee.

In keeping with the theme of the day, guests "followed their hearts" through the building, chatting with the dozens of CA staff who were on hand to guide them and answer their questions.

The new building, at 728 North James Lovell Street, now accommodates the majority of CA's staff and programs -- excluding residential sites.  Our longtime headquarters on Fond du Lac Avenue and several satellite offices have been consolidated into this one location.

A downtown, central headquarters promises to make it easier for Milwaukee's neediest families from all over the city to access the services they need. The new space also provides an inviting and professional environment, where everyone -- colleagues, clients, and supporters -- can feel comfortable and welcome.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for helping us make this a very memorable Valentine's/Community Advocates Day!

Black Excellence Award

LaTrice Buck Hogan

LaTrice Buck Hogan, Director of the Milwaukee Women's Center Division of Community Advocates, will be among those honored on the evening of Friday, February 25, 2011, with a Black Excellence Award from The Milwaukee Times.

The awards banquet, featuring keynote speaker Reginald Weaver (former president of the National Education Association  and current vice president of Education International), will be held at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee's Third Ward.

Hogan had this to say about the award: "It is truly an honor to be recognized like this.  I pour my heart and soul into my work every day, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to serve this community.  I'm grateful to Community Advocates' board for nominating me, and to The Milwaukee Times for granting me this honor."
