High Performance Butterfly Valves
vs. Resilient Seated Butterfly Valves
High performance butterfly valves are usually specified over the resilient butterfly valves when the service requires higher operating pressures and temperatures such as hot water/steam or in high rise building structures where the weight of the column of water exceeds the pressure capabilities of the resilient seated valve.
The greatest advantage of a high performance butterfly valve is its pressure/temperature design features. The high performance butterfly valve is usually manufactured from cast steel or cast stainless material allowing it to handle the higher operating pressure and temperature required in demanding applications. The seat of the high performance butterfly valve is usually PTFE/RPTFE with a CF8M stainless steel disc and stem for application up to 400° F and 740 psi.
The resilient seated butterfly valve is usually made from cast iron or a ductile iron body material. The trim of the resilient seated butterfly valve is chosen based on the media and temperature but the design limitations are 200 psi to a maximum of 300
° F. We offer a variety of configurations to best fit your service needs. Click here for more information on the similarities and differences of high performance and resilient butterfly valves.
As far as cycle and life expectancy, the high performance style of butterfly will outlast the resilient butterfly valve in most demanding services of today's HVAC systems. Give us a call today and let us help you find the best butterfly valve for your application.
