Keeping in Step with the Spirit

This week's devotion is authored by Becky Blake, prayer co-coordinator for our ministry expansion campaign.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4).

The time has come — the walls of our beloved school and gym of six decades, a space that has meant much to many, past and present, have officially come down. An array of emotions were evident as people gathered to watch — memories shared, and those yet to come. Truly a bittersweet moment.

We have prayed, planned, and prepared for this. God answered and provided for us. Here we are, after countless meetings and careful consideration. The gates have gone up, safety barriers are in position, and contingency parking plans are in place — all so that we can continue to carry out the kingdom work through our church and school. These past few weeks, we have been blessed with beautiful weather, which has allowed the new logistics to be joyfully bearable. Inevitably, the weather will change along with moods and motivation. There will be tests and challenges, petty cares and frustrations that may, at times, tempt us to forgo what God is calling each of us to do.

God has richly blessed the spaces, the people, and the ministry of St. Paul’s. He has shown us His steadfast faithfulness, and He is not finished, nor are we. We must not fall prey to what the enemy desires, as our familiar steps have changed in these past weeks. Rather, we must keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25), deliberately adopting an attitude of thankfulness even when we may not feel like it, so that we may continue to “enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4).

O enter then His gates with praise;

Approach with joy His courts unto.

Praise, laud, and bless His name always,

For it is seemly so to do.
