Dear Sue,
Is this course is for you? It could well be. This rare opportunity to participate in a year’s immersion in meditation and Qigong also allows the commitments of your family and working lives to continue alongside your study and practice.
I abandoned everything to dedicate a year for such an immersion: my home, my work, my friends. And, yes, the ripples of that period continue to illuminate my relationship with myself and the world on a daily basis, mostly in unexpected and subtle ways. And I do not ever regret that decision to withdraw from the dizzy whirl of the busy freelancer. But that path is not possible or enticing for everyone.
Yes, this course is for you even if you do not wish to teach, but are interested in learning how to live a more balanced life. Nicky, who is to participate on the course, said:
‘I have wanted to do the teacher training primarily to improve my own knowledge and understanding of the practice, and learning to teach anything is a great way of focussing the mind and body! Exploring it with a group of like minded individuals will reinforce and expand my experience. I can’t honestly say I plan to teach on a regular basis …’.
This next comment from Jenny will speak to those who do wish to teach these arts:
‘I want to do more Qigong as it has been a highlight of my week since I started learning with Sue nearly 2 years ago. It has a powerful positive effect on my mental and physical well-being, and has also been a form of continuous professional development in my work as an Alexander Teacher. I have found Sue's way of teaching joyful and playful, and her eloquent way of explaining what it is she teaching has been inspiring, so I would like to learn as much as I can from her.’
Also wishing to widen her teaching portfolio, Eva, said:
‘I have been looking for a framework to transmit mindfulness to my own workshop & retreat participants for a long time. But I did not feel confident enough to present it in my own way. This is why I am so much looking forward to getting them in a concise manner from someone who is embodying them herself.’
One of the foundational motivations for participating on the Mindfulness & Movement Teacher Training is a curiosity to learn more about oneself and the human condition. This is more important than focusing on any expectations of a successful outcome of your initial intention. To participate without expectations allows us to be open to the experience. Victor Frankel, author of ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ counselled his students: ‘Don’t aim at success.’ He continued: ‘Success, like happiness, cannot be pursued, it must ensue, and only does so as the unintended side effect of ones’ dedication… (then) Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success.’
Moment by moment curiosity leads us down a path of wonder. That is how children learn. And that is how we best learn too. Here you can find more details and how to register for the Mindfulness & Movement Teacher Training. There are bursaries available for those who wish some help with the cost, email me for further details.
The regular Tuesday 6pm and Thursday 11am Qigong classes enable us to maintain and boost our physical fitness while delving deeper into the wisdom of the body. The flowing postures of Qigong informs and resonates with our hearts, thoughts and sensations. And it is fun as well as giving us a wonderful dose of wellbeing at every session too. Scroll down this Newsletter for the Tuesday and Thursday Qigong recurring Zoom login links.
During the Qigong & Meditation Retreat Week on Holy Isle, not long now - 25th May to 1st June and there are places available, there will be no Tuesday 27th or Thursday 29th May Qigong classes..
I look forward hearing from you and seeing you soon.
Warmest wishes,
Sue
