The novelist Sue Monk Kidd said, "The month of August had turned into a griddle where the days just lay there and sizzled." Most of us, whether in Florida or elsewhere in the U.S have certainly felt the truth of that. This feeling makes August the perfect time to practice, "Right now, it's like this." It doesn't mean we have to like it. We only have to recognize the reality of the present moment, which gives us the opportunity to see how often we are pushing it away in favor of the next reality. I want it to be cooler, less humid, less rainy, fewer political commercials. . . . You get the picture. Our practice is to just recognize the present moment and take a breath. Every present moment, month, weather, and political cycle always gives way to the next. Just breathe.
Much Metta,
