Mindfulness and Children

This workshop will discuss mindfulness themes and how they can be used to work with children.

The first part of the workshop will introduce the concept of mindfulness and its intersectionality with psychoanalysis. Some themes we will discuss are awareness, exploring experience, curiosity, and perspective shifting.

The second part of the workshop will explore mindfulness techniques that can be used with children to dive into the above concepts. Participants will walk away with several mindfulness activities that they can do with children in an education, non-profit, or clinical setting.

Paige Niezelski is attending the Master of Arts Program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at ICPS. She has worked with children for 10 years in education, camp programs, and non-profit work. She was the lead Program Director at Camp Tuku - a mindfulness-themed camp located in Arizona and New York.

Paige became interested in eastern meditation practices in her early 20s when she was working and traveling abroad in China, South Korea, Tibet, and Thailand. When she returned to the United States she started to learn about mindfulness and incorporated it into her work with children in a non-profit setting.

Paige has a passion for supporting children and building their emotional literacy as well as helping them practice self-reflection. She thinks teaching children curiosity about their life experiences helps build self-knowledge and strengthens their internal capacity for resilience.
