Embracing Change and Hope

I believe the sunny, fun-filled days of July are a bit of a reward for all of the days and months leading up that we spend working! For the most part, summer is a time to relax and celebrate. July marks the beginning of a new fiscal year for Minding Your Mind. We are excited to celebrate the return of in-person learning in the fall, bringing with it some semblance of normalcy for our students, educators, and families. Not only will Minding Your Mind be back to visiting schools and classrooms, we will continue to provide our virtual programs as well. Before we begin preparing for the new school year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Minding Your Mind speakers, staff members, volunteers, and financial supporters who stood with us through this unprecedented and incredibly challenging time. Through it all, even in the most difficult times, we saw and received the best of people. The resilience of our communities is boundless. I celebrate all of you! Our experiences of the past year will inspire and guide us as we focus on helping students and the adults in their lives navigate this "new normal," and — as always — hope.
Thank you,

Minding Your Mind Goes National
Marissa Marschall Named
Director of National Outreach & Programming
|
|
|
As Minding Your Mind presentations moved from in-person to virtual, it became clear that our mental health education programs are in demand and well-received in schools, communities, and workplaces across the country. To better serve this growing geographic diversity, Minding Your Mind has tapped Marissa Marschall to lead our efforts as Director of National Outreach & Programming. Since joining Minding Your Mind in early 2019, Marissa has enhanced our presence in Pennsylvania and expanded our reach throughout the Mid-Atlantic. She also developed the highly successful Kind Minds program for elementary schools, headed Minding Your Mind's partnership with C.B Community Schools, and was a driving force in the creation of Minding Your Mind: ONLINE. As of July 1, Marissa is responsible for introducing Minding Your Mind to schools and organizations around the country, allowing Minding Your Mind to bring mental health education programs and suicide prevention training anywhere in the U.S. "Marissa was with us for less than a year when the pandemic hit and our whole service model was turned upside down," says Trish Larsen, executive director. "Not only was her commitment to Minding Your Mind's mission invaluable in our ability to reshape and reposition the way we deliver our programs, her clinical expertise and creative employment of that knowledge led the way in developing new programs that addressed timely issues and diverse audiences. Her professional skills combined with her warm and engaging personality make her the ideal person to introduce Minding Your Mind to new communities."
We are currently booking both in-person and virtual programs for the 2021-2022 school year. If you are located in an area not served by one of our existing regional offices (Florida, New England, New Jersey & New York, Pennsylvania) and would like to learn more about what Minding Your Mind has to offer, please contact Marissa directly.

13 Random Acts of Kindness
|
Minding Your Mind is teaming up with a Pennsylvania high school student to help spread mental health awareness. A few years ago, Dylan Fox created the 13 Random Acts of Kindness project. He asked friends and family to join him in doing acts of kindness in order to brighten someone’s day and spread mental health awareness. In response to the struggles he is seeing and hearing from classmates during the pandemic, Dylan has decided to revive the project and partner with Minding Your Mind to expand the impact.

"Dear Mom and Dad, Please stick with me. I can’t think clearly right now because there is a rather substantial section of my prefrontal cortex missing. It’s a fairly important chunk, something having to do with rational thought. You see, it won’t be fully developed until I’m about 25. And from where I sit, 25 seems a long way off."
From where parents and caregivers of teens sit, 25 can seem like a long way off, too. That's one of the reasons we fell in love with this essay: it includes some great tips and is a much-needed reminder for everyone involved with tweens and teens to breathe deeply and know that behind any puzzling action lies their deepest wish, "Please stick with me." We're always here for all of you.
