CHANGING LANDSCAPES WITHIN

WILDLIFE. COMMUNITY. POSSIBILITY.

Dear GSGC Supporter

Sometimes, we have to slow down to see what has been there all along. To look beyond what first catches our eye, and notice the lives, hopes, and connections woven into the landscape around us.

This month, we invite you to step into Miles Scherer journey and discover how a lifelong love of wildlife opened the door to a different way of seeing.

Traveling Beyond with Miles Scherer

From rescuing lizards in Florida as a child, to turtle conservation in Madagascar, to studying environmental policy and law, Miles Scherer has always been drawn to protecting wildlife. It was during his work in Madagascar that he met GSGC Founder Priscilla Plummer, who introduced him to a different way of thinking about the relationship between conservation, communities, and opportunity.

It wasn't until his recent trip to Zimbabwe that her words really came to life.

MENTOR MOMENT

Young people are constantly absorbing messages about who they are, what they are capable of, and what their future holds. Some of those messages expand what they believe is possible. Others can become limiting stories they begin to believe about themselves.

For Frank Chikosi, mentorship is an opportunity to help young people question those stories and see themselves differently. Sometimes that means offering a new perspective. Sometimes it means listening closely enough to understand the story they are carrying.

Over time, Frank has seen how a shift in mindset can open new possibilities.

What makes a club a GSGC club?

While every club reflects the people, culture, and community where it takes place, all GSGC clubs share the same foundation: 10 guiding principles that shape how mentors create spaces where young people can learn, grow, and imagine what is possible.

These principles fall into three connected areas.

Relationship Building comes first. Young people need to feel seen, known, and safe before they can fully engage. GSGC clubs prioritize safe and inclusive spaces, knowing each young person, small groups, and consistent mentorship so that meaningful relationships have time to develop.

Holistic Education recognizes that learning is about more than academic achievement. Clubs combine engaging learning experiences, educational success, and life skills development, helping young people build the confidence, practical skills, and resilience they need to navigate their lives and their futures.

And Community Engagement reminds us that young people are part of something larger than themselves. Through community buy in, giving back, and environmental stewardship, clubs encourage young people to recognize their own capacity to contribute to the wellbeing of their communities and the places they call home.

Together, these 10 fundamentals provide a common framework without creating a one size fits all program. The foundation stays consistent. The way it comes to life is local.

That balance is intentional. GSGC is not focused on rapidly replicating a program. We are focused on building relationships, investing in mentors, and creating the conditions for meaningful change to take root over time.

Because mentorship is more than what happens during a club session. It is the consistent presence of someone who sees you, hears you, and believes in you.

And when that kind of relationship is combined with opportunity, belonging, and support, young people can begin to see possibilities that may once have seemed out of reach.

Your support helps make that consistency possible. Every gift helps sustain the mentors, relationships, and opportunities at the heart of GSGC's model.

Ten guiding principles. One shared purpose. And a community of people who believe in what is possible.
