On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Holy Father proclaimed the "Year of St. Joseph." The year began on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2020 and extends to the same feast in 2021. Pope Francis shares his beautiful reflections on St. Joseph in the new Apostolic Letter named, “With a Father’s Heart.” He shares that his intent with the proclamation: "The aim of this Apostolic Letter is to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal." We encourage everyone to read the Holy Father's letter which can be found here. The Holy Father reflects on St. Joseph and the meaning of the fatherhood. Malvern Retreat House has a unique connection to St. Joseph and we know this year will be a grace-filled time for Malvern and our guests. We are planning activities, reflections and retreat days to honor St. Joseph throughout the year! Stay tuned and visit our website page!

Ways to Gain a Plenary Indulgence in the Year of St. Joseph
-
The plenary indulgence is granted to those who will meditate for at least 30 minutes on the Lord’s Prayer, or take part in a Spiritual Retreat of at least one day that includes a meditation on St. Joseph.
- The indulgence can also be obtained by those who, following St. Joseph’s example, will perform a spiritual or corporal work of mercy.
- The recitation of the Holy Rosary in families and among engaged couples is another way of obtaining indulgences, in order that “all Christian families may be stimulated to recreate the same atmosphere of intimate communion, love and prayer that was in the Holy Family.”
- Everyone who entrusts their daily activity to the protection of St. Joseph, and every faithful who invokes the intercession of St. Joseph so that those seeking work can find dignifying work can also obtain the plenary indulgence.
-
The plenary indulgence is also granted to the faithful who will recite the Litany to St. Joseph (for the Latin tradition), or the Akathistos to St. Joseph (for the Byzantine tradition), or any other prayer to St. Joseph proper to the other liturgical traditions, for the persecuted Church ad intra and ad extra, and for the relief of all Christians suffering all forms of persecution.
- In addition to these, the Apostolic Penitentiary grants a plenary indulgence to the faithful who will recite any legitimately approved prayer or act of piety in honor of St. Joseph.
For the sick
- Amid the ongoing Covid-19 health crisis, the gift of the plenary indulgence is also extended to the sick, the elderly, the dying and all those who for legitimate reasons are unable to leave their homes.

We surpassed our goal by $50,000!!!
Thank you for making #GivingTuesday a success! As we review 2020, our hearts are filled with gratitude for you, our partners in mission. Your kind words of support gave us a spirit of courage! Your prayers gave us a spirit of hope! And, your generosity empowered us to passionately live the mission of Malvern Retreat House in these unique times!
We were amazed by the success of the campaign. This was certainly our most successful Giving Tuesday effort. So, while Malvern has seen many challenges this year, we have also benefited from untold grace and generosity!
Please continue to support us through the Malvern Forward Campaign. Our goal is to reach 1.2 million dollars to sustain us. As you know, the loss of income from the suspension of onsite retreats during the spring nationwide shutdown was massive.
We reached out to all of you in letters and phone calls. Many of you donated your retreat deposits, and responded with generosity to our pleas for help. Amazingly, we have almost reached our goal. Please prayerfully consider a gift to help us move MALVERN FORWARD!

Men and Women of Malvern Retreats
The recent changes to Pennsylvania State restrictions due to COVID have impacted the Retreat House limiting us to 10% capacity. We expect that in early January, we can resume hosting retreats onsite. While our capacity will remain limited by social distancing requirements, we will be able to welcome larger groups. We really want to encourage everyone to register for their upcoming retreat! Doing so, helps us in our planning for food, staff and other logistical matters.
Upcoming Retreats
Visit our calendar for registration information and virtual options.
Please note: All Men and Women of Malvern onsite retreats are broadcast virtually via Zoom as an alternative to attending in person.

Advent Retreat - Re-imagined
|
|
Each Advent, Malvern sponsors a weekend Advent Retreat. We had many people registered to attend onsite for the weekend of December 18th with Father Blount. We decided to re-imagine the retreat, and move to a completely virtual event so that more people could participate. Our team and Father Blount's team switched gears quickly and updated the schedule and prepared our technology. It has been amazing! We are so glad that over 150 people will 'virtually attend' the retreat. This year has taught us how to adapt and grow while staying focused on our mission. One hope that we have is to expand our reach beyond the physical location of Malvern. We want to spread our mission far and wide, and at the same time invite more people to experience the beauty of Malvern in person. We will continue to see how God might lead us as we 're-imagine' the retreat experience and live our mission!

We want to thank the many people who have come to Malvern for a blood drive. Due to COVID, a significant number of blood drives have not been held. Malvern wanted to help so we have worked with the Red Cross and have had multiple drives this year. It has been awesome for us to work with the Red Cross! We plan to coordinate one each quarter, so keep in touch or feel free to call for the next date.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM MALVERN RETREAT HOUSE
|
|
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen.
