Malvern Retreat House was impacted by the recent storms that ripped through our area. The Lourdes Grotto was nearly destroyed.

These last few months have taken a toll on all of us. But, the sacred grounds of St. Joseph in the Hills have always been a place where we can find peace in the beauty around us. At this sacred place, the troubles of the world can seem far away and the connection to the Creator fills the soul with trust and peace. That is why, the sight of this destruction shook all of us to the core.

With the complete COVID shut-down behind us, the first phase of re-opening is in place. The loss of income continues to be a heavy burden, but powerful retreats these last few weeks have kept us moving forward. Last week, however, the repair and restoration costs for the Grotto felt like an insurmountable task.

And, then amidst the sense of hopelessness, something beautiful happened. Generous donors responded to this URGENT PLEA from President, Mark J. Poletunow. It was more than we could have imagined! We share their inspiring words with you, so that you might be touched by their sense of hope and gratitude.

“We are so very fortunate to have Malvern Retreat House in our area. Now, more than ever, the faithful need the spiritual environment of these facilities and grounds. To see the recent devastation to the Marian Grotto in the YouTube video and to hear Mark Poletunow’s call for help simply could not be ignored. My wife and I have been long time retreatants who have been very blessed and saw this request as a call from Our Lady to assist in the restoration of this beautiful shrine and place of quiet prayer. We are pleased to be able to answer this call. May Our Blessed Mother, Mary, come to us in our time of need.”

Their gift has allowed us to begin repairing the Shrine. We are so grateful! Much more is needed, and we pray that their example will inspire many of you to support the Grotto repairing and to keep moving Malvern Forward!
