Rose Alert | Small Space Alert
Mini and Patio Roses
| |
In this issue of the Rose and Small Space Alerts we highlight our foray into miniature and compact patio roses. We think these will be winners for many gardeners who garden in small spaces or who want to surround themselves with more roses by brining them into containers.
They are part of our Great Rose Pre-Order running now for spring 2024 with currently with 113 cultivars and more to come with launches throughout the fall and winter.
We also have our Spring Bulb and Bare Root Pre-Order running now with 665 different bulbs and bare root available for pre-order and pick-up or shipping this month and next.
Bulbs are already arriving at the nursery and will continue arriving every week through September and into October. To ensure you get specific species and cultivars, make sure to pre-order. And, if you’re local, you can always come in and browse the bulbs that have already arrived.
Similarly, our Citrus and Rare Fruit Pre-Order is also running now. Many of the plants have now arrived. Locals can come shop in person or place an order for pick-up. Mail order customers can order now for immediate shipping on most plants. One group of late additions though won’t arrive to us and ship until mid to late October. These include: paw paws, jujubes, white mulberries, pineapple guava, and more! Details are below.
We are also now harvesting and shipping our cactus pads from our Cactus Pad Pre-Order. Get your orders in and we can ship right away. We only harvest to order so locals will also have to place an order online.
For locals, also don't miss our Back to School sale. Though if you like succulents there is also a sale coming up for our mail order customers.
There's a lot to shop for from the comfort of your own home as well as at the nursery! Have fun and see you soon!
Cheers, Gary and the Phoenicians

Spring Bulbs
Wednesday October 11th, 2023
Richmond Public Library, Brighouse
100-7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond
Bulbs are a diverse, fascinating and easy-to-grow group of plants. Planting them in the fall for spring blooms can take your garden and containers to the next level offering beauty and colour when perennials and shrubs are still dormant. Bulbs can also be tucked into small spaces, planted under ground covers, added to mixed containers, and planted between existing plants to add extra layers of interest. Gary will introduce you to a wide range of spring-flowering bulbs and how to grow them.
The talk is free but advance registration is required to reserve your space.

Mini and Patio Roses for Small Spaces and Containers
Small roses with lots of flower power
For 2024 we are pleased to expand our selection of roses into compact patio and miniature roses offering you more options to plant roses not just in your garden but also in containers on your patio and your balcony. You'l be able to surround yourself in roses no matter where you are in your personal outdoor space. These cultivars are also wonderful for small space gardeners who can grow lots of roses in not a lot of space.
If you grow these in containers remember: fertilizer, fertilizer, fertilizer. Roses are heavy feeders. In a container they depend on you for their needs. A good fertilizer regimen will result in amazing performance and tons of flowers. You'll also want a chunky mix with added bark and drainage to keep those roots healthy. Heavy compost in containers wouldn't be a good thing. Then just give them sun and water and watch them bloom!
Have fun exploring our selection below. You can pre-order for spring 2024 by clicking the link at the bottom of this article. Enjoy!
