Epiphany

“When you give a blessing, a blessing

returns to enfold you.”

– John O’Donohue

The season of Epiphany, which begins tomorrow, is a reminder that physical space, the very matter and substance of our lives can reveal the presence of God. The magi arrive in the home of Mary and Joseph to honor this humble child whose life will shine forth with God’s light.

Our homes, in ordinary and simple ways, may be where God’s light is made visible in our lives. Our favorite chair, our kitchens with dirty dishes in the sink, half-read books, and the children’s slime experiments are the reminder that God shows up in our real lives surprising us with gifts. It is a custom to bless our homes in Epiphany season and all who live, work in, or visit them. Last year I wrote a blog post about a simple blessing you can offer for your own home to mark Epiphany. As we put away all our Christmas decorations and reset our homes, I like the feeling of blessing my home as we begin a new year.

If you have moved into a new home in the last year, and I know several of our parishioners have, I would be love to offer a house blessing for your home. Don’t worry, you don’t have to put all the dishes away, or have everything perfect, I would be honored to be part of praying over your home in this season just as it is. May God bless and enfold you and your homes in this year.

A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life

9 a.m. | Great Hall

Join Rev. Jane in studying Richard Rohr’s book: Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life. Rohr explains that the journey to spiritual maturity requires us to honor the needs of the first half of life, identity formation and security, while providing room to move into the second half of life where we grow in wisdom.

No reading necessary – we will share passages and ideas and share in conversation together.
