From the Pastor's Desk
Dear Friends in Christ,
January allows a great opportunity to stop and reflect upon the year that has past and look forward with great anticipation to the new year that has just arrived. Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to spend some time reflecting on 2019 at Our Savior as I worked with the staff to put together the 2019 Year in Review. As I looked back over 2019, there were two words that kept coming to mind: grace and faithfulness.
At the heart of who we are at Our Savior is the grace of God. Without it, we would be lost and still stuck in our sin trying to make ourselves right in the eyes of a holy God. With God's grace we are princes and princesses of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We aren't only saved from our sin, but we are made part of the family. And yet, God's grace is not limited to our salvation. Everything that we do in Christ and as a church is dripping in the work of God's grace. As we look at the world around us and see the many blessings that we have, our eyes are opened to see God's grace in both expected and unexpected places. As I look back over this last year at Our Savior, God's grace has been on full display as lives are being changed by the work of God in our midst.   How truly blessed we are to be a part of God's work in this world, specifically here in the Tri-Valley.
God's faithfulness has also been on display throughout 2019. Through the ups and the downs of this year, God has been with us and been true to each and every one of his promises. I'm reminded of the words of Lamentations 3:22-23:

"The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

God is faithful each and every day. God's Word is full of his promises. There may be days when we feel far from God. There may be days when we struggle. But through it all, we know that God never stops loving us, never stops being with us, and always keeps His promises.
It was fun to put together the 2019 Year in Review that was passed out at our recent meeting. It gives you a snapshot of some of what God has been up to this past year. Great things have been done. As we have worked together much has been accomplished.   If you haven't had a chance to check it out, I encourage you to click here to download it and take a look. I am thankful for 2019 and remain excited to see what God has in store for us as we walk united into 2020. Thanks for all that you do.
Pastor Kevin
Staying Connected
Thank you to all who took the time to attend the January Voters' Meeting. If you were present, you saw and heard first-hand the highlights of the 2019 year in review.  It is an exciting time at Our Savior Lutheran Ministries, as we see the Lord at work, equipping us for life in ministry. We truly are very blessed.  If you missed the meeting, be sure to pour over Pastor's report, and the rest of the details, which have been made available to you through the attached minutes If you ever have questions/suggestions about the direction and leadership of OSLM, please let us know.  You can connect with us several different ways, including stopping by "Bagels with Board Members" (the next one is Sunday, February 16 in the gym, after service).  You are also invited to join the Open Forum session of our monthly Board meetings (next one is Tuesday, February 18, at 7pm). And of course, you can reach-out to any one of us directly; see the church office for our contact information, if you don't already have it.

A quick reminder, the Board of Director's Nominating Committee has been formed, and will looking to you for input/nominations for future directors. Have you ever considered running for the Board of Directors, or know someone who you believe would be a good candidate?  Is so, please see Chris Korsak, Linda Futral, Glenna Sanlis or Kayla Marchini, to share your thoughts.  Elections, to vote-in two candidates for a three-year term, will take place in June, at the next Voters' Assembly.

In His service and yours,
Angela Westphal

OSLM Endowment Fund
OSLM's Endowment Fund: helping His Kingdom grow!
Did you know that...
  • OSLM's Endowment Fund has grown to over $63,000 through fundraising projects like the OSLM cookbook, and through generous gifts made by our members?
  • the Endowment Committee may grant up to 5% of the fund principle each year-about $3000 for 2020-to projects that help His Kingdom grow?
  • grants fund things not covered by our general church giving, such as outreach and mission projects, and members or associates studying to be LCMS Pastors and Teachers?
  • the primary way the Endowment Fund grows is through member contributions?
  • as the fund grows, the grant amounts will increase and may have a more significant impact on His Kingdom?
  • donating to the Endowment Fund is not just for end-of-life gifts; it could be a regular part of our annual giving portfolio?
Talk to a member of the Endowment Committee for more information: Ann Brand, Beth Erbert, Joe Ryno, Jeffrey Walsh, or Beth Young.
What's Happening in Preschool?
Preschool had a wonderful month of January; the highlight was celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week. We joined the "Big School" for a rally to kick the week off celebrating the Joy of Jesus. Middle School came and read stories to us and fun was had by all. We ended our week with Grandparents Day. Grandparents came to hang out and check out our amazing school. The children created instruments in STEM and performed wonderful songs for them. We ended our time together with Chapel in the Church. It was an awesome day with over 100 grandparents visiting. We hope that you will continue to keep our children and their families in your prayers as we watch God work through our little ones.

Open Enrollment for our Preschool-8th grade has begun. Visit our web site and check out information about our school and share the information with your friends and neighbors.

A beautiful event is planned on Christian fashion, including in addition a fun project to bring toiletries to the homeless in our area. And as always, there will be a Bible study, fellowship, and a great lunch. $10 donation. Starts at 8:30 am at St. Philip Church in Dublin.

For National LWML news, look for the Quarterly magazine at several locations in church and narthex.

Mites Update:
Congratulations to all who have donated mites. All the grants have been paid except for the last one for LCMS Mission Advancement, a $3000 grant. Over a two year period, in the LWML CNH District, you have helped to fund $95,274 worth of grants, which are being used to do Christian Outreach to Chico State and Butte College students, minister to adults with developmental disabilities, bring the Lord to Hmong, Chinese, Sierra Leone and Peruvian people, send missionaries and medical teams to reach people for Christ, support retired pastors in their old age, and more. The national LWML raised over $2,000,000 for even more mission projects. You are a part of this generous commitment to do mission at home and abroad. Save your mites for Missions!

March 29 is the next Mites Sunday. Save your coins as you go along, putting a few in your mite box daily, as a thank offering to the Lord.

We meet every Wednesday from 1 - 5 pm in Room 19. Come and see what's happening. You might want to take material home to make tops or backs. We want to make more beautiful quilts to be sent around the world. And we need your help to do it. Thank you!

Altar Guild Needs Help:
Communion preparation helpers are needed. Please consider joining this team. We can train you and you can decide the days you will serve. Call or talk to Susan Contreras 925-462-3753.
