"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty."
This Sunday one of our church members pointed to this on the wall behind the altar. I don't know how many Sundays I have spent here and I never caught that glimpse of the shadow of a cross before. We both remarked that it was beautiful and then were baffled as to where it was coming from. We were running all over the sanctuary trying to figure out lights and angles. Finally we realized that the light from one of the high windows was just catching the top of the Episcopal Flag Pole. How random. How rare. How beautiful.
Living in the shadow of the Cross is something many preachers talk about. It is a reference to the life on this side of Christ's resurrection where we are sheltered, forgiven and protected by his sacrifice. I love those little reminders. A shadow on our wall, the path of the cross lining a window, the way water is used in a movie to symbolize baptism. I love those things because they wake me up to a new and beautiful reality. Being a Christian means being awake to the wonder, the glory and the miracles which are happening each and every day.
1. What wakes you up to God's presence?
2. Where do you find messages of grace?
3. How do we find the courage to share them?
