Planting

"Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."

John 12:24

I was walking along our new sidewalks with a church member recently. Looking over all of the overturned dirt, she remarked, "It looks so dead." Without even thinking these words fell out of my mouth: "planting always does." The more I thought about it the more I realized it is true. The beginning is always desolate because when you start all you have is hope. I wasn't even thinking at the time about how Jesus actually talked about seed as dying when they are planted but it is interesting to me how new beginnings almost always involve grief.

I think that is important because we are in a season of change for a lot of folks. It was just graduation. It is summer. There is change and hope, and desolation in these seasons. And I am here to remind each that this season of your life is a holy season. Harvesting is not more holy than planting. Watering is not more holy than planting. It is all part of the drama of love that rests in the heart of God.

I will leave you this week with another quote from the bible. This is something I often try to come back to in seasons of change or uncertainty.

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace."

-Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Annual Soup Drive - Every Can Makes a Difference!
It's time for the annual summer soup drive to support MESA Outreach
The generous members of Saint Aidan's have been a consistent blessing to those in need through your support of MESA Outreach.  Once the school year is ended, there is an increased demand for easy to fix meals for the children during the summer.  Last year alone, MESA provided over 3,000 families with nonperishable food assistance twice each month The collection of hearty soup this summer is paramount to supporting these families.
This will be our fourth year to hold a summer soup drive and we are asking for your continued support. Our goal is to collect 4,000 cans of soup to be sure children do not go hungry.  The familiar soup collection can will be in the narthex along with collection bags and an updated status of where we stand in meeting our goal. Heartfelt thanks and Blessing to our St. Aidan's Family
